2026 Calvin Russell III

As much as I hate to keep letting elite skill talent from down here leave, and obviously it doesn’t work like this but if you have your pick and whichever one you choose, you get 100% and the other one leaves, it’s a fairly obvious choice.

If this thread gets bumped in 3 years and Russell is a first-team All-America or some ****, so be it. I’ll wear it. He is a legit prospect. But with the information laid out as of June 2025, it’s an easy call.

The cool part tho? Sign them both the **** up.

Agreed. At the WR position in college, you take the perceived higher floor over the perceived higher ceiling. Skills + production over perceived talent advantage all day.

But, yes, take both, if possible!

I was just stating the obvious. Am I wrong?
That’s a Randy Moss pic in high school.
Have you ever met any nfl wide receivers in person?
Most of them are skinny. AB,obj, Hollywood Brown, etc.
Have you seen Ny Carr? Dude is a pencil too. What about Devonta Smith?

What makes Russell look even skinnier is the fact that he’s 6’5.
That’s why the league values dudes that are bigger and still athletic on both sides of the ball.
Calvin Johnson, Andre, J Smith, Jalen Ramsey, Derwin James.
It’s why Lucas is gonna be high draft pick.
But for the most part, skill position players are thin from high school to the league.

And even then, that kid caught the title clinching TD in OT as a true freshman.

Correct.

And you know how many passes he caught that entire season?

Eight. Eight catches as a true freshman.

Look, I’m not saying Russell will be as good as Smith. I’m not a ******. What I am saying is dictating how hard you push for him or how much of a priority he is etc etc because of his size RIGHT NOW is ******* dumb.

This isn’t some under the radar recruit who were trying to sell ourselves he’s going to develop into some 0.1% outcome. He’s a Top 5 WR in the country and he’s being recruited by everyone in America. It’s because he possesses a ceiling that most kids do not. He’s really fluid, with extreme length and basketball athleticism. Of course he needs to add weight. But you don’t take this kid with the expectation he needs to catch 50 balls next year. You take him and combine what you can’t teach (basically his entire skill set) with what you can (strength and weight). If he hits, he’s going to hit in a huge way. Stacy Coley is another example, he was pretty **** good here. Kid couldn’t bench press a toothpick.

This thought is so overrated. We had skinny guys like Harley, Pope, and Wiggins having no issues getting off the line. Them muddafvkas just couldn't catch a **** cold. Not so much Harley but still. Against a physical corner or not, getting off the line is more about TECHNIQUE. But yeah, I'd still prefer all of the athletes on my team to look like they're having good nutrition lol
I assume he will play the X position so lets just take Pope and Harley out of it. He wont have the advantage of being off the line of scrimmage, in the slot or having motion to help against press man. He will be wearing the big boy pants, on the line of scrimmage and facing physical corners. He will see more press coverage than the other WR positions so compare him to Isaiah Horton or Colby young.

Wiggins was an X but his speed made it tricky to press him. Still... When they did, he often struggled (there were games he completely disappeared) but he could also take the top off so teams had to be careful. If thats your comparison that he could turn into... I would expect more.

I agree on technique and I do think he has big upside but the concern about his weight and the ability to put on more while playing basketball is valid. Especially at top of the board NIL dollars. Obviously still a take but a take with questions marks. Unlike Tristen Keys.

I agree and trust me.... I'm not saying don't have concerns about his weight. I'm just saying a wr weight against "physical" corners when it comes to getting off the line is overrated. well at least in college. But regardless, yeah he is extremely slim. Does he have speed?? I haven't been following his recruitment or checked out any film yet. Wanted to wait until he makes a decision.

Kyle Wright was a 5 star. That doesn’t mean anything.

And so was Jeremiah Smith. Of course it does. I’m not having this moronic discussion for the 8 billionth time. The teams who win the most sign the most elite players. It’s not that complicated. I hope they sign Russell, he’s got a chance to be really special. Thankfully the staff agrees and they’re being very aggressive with him.

So lemme get this straight... Coleman is short n skinny and all I hear is "he'll grow more" or it doesn't matter "look at that arm"..
But with this cat... he's too skinny and overrated?
Top that off with **** near everyone saying we can't, won't or don't land 5 star receivers from FL...which this dude IS!
Y'all trim as **** 😆
