I was 18-21 range. That’s why I said that kid ridiculous. I know his pops strong as hèll too cause that dude swole
When most father and sons were going fishing or to a ball game..this father-son duo was lifting weights and doing power cleans! Lol.

The context is, anyone who needs context for these numbers likely had a TBI.

500 lb. bench press is very impressive for any human, let alone a 16 year old.

Michael Carter (former 49ers NT and Olympic silver medalist) holds the HS record for 12-pound shot put with an 81 ft. 3.5 inch throw back in 1979. No other HS kid has ever hit 80 feet. 74-9.75 as a sophomore is insanely impressive.

For me I don’t really care much about lifting numbers

I mean don’t get me wrong they have some substance and his are clearly freak of nature status

BUT when you look at the entire picture, his athleticism, the way he trains for shot put etc the numbers matter way more

I’ve known plenty of strong people that don’t have a hint of athleticism or just don’t have the required height and frame to be successful but this kid has it all

I’ve been a bit critical of his play (mostly because I figured the bag would need to be insane to get him) but you just don’t see kids like this come along very often

Just couldn’t be happier that we get to see it play out for the good guys

Anyone else find the irony in this? Mr From the Bench Press doesn’t care about lifting numbers.

😂😂😂

Bench press ain’t even a good exercise if we are being honest

That’s a powerful kid. To be 16 and that strong is unheard of. He has all of the mental and physical tools to be one of the best tackles to every play at Miami.
Genetics, he’s the offspring of Olympians combine that with the other intangibles and you have a Genetic Freak!

This years top bench was 33 reps… which is 472.5 lbs on a standard 1 rep calc. So he is theoretically able to lift more than the top guy at the combine from this year if he’s benching 500 lbs 1RM
Think the 1rm calculators go a little out of whack once you get above 10-12 reps usually, So wouldn't take that 472.5lb as very accurate whatsoever. Going 30+ reps is FAR different than just training for 5 or less reps. Stamina is big there.
But:

Aaron Donald is 270-280 usually and has just under 33" arms which is what they're saying Cantwell has... But Cantwell has 6" and 20+lbs on him.
I only picked Donald because I've seen that clip of him talking about his bench. His thing is he's absurdly strong for his size. But he did 35 reps at the combine and has a 500lb (possibly more) max. DK with basically 35" arms did 27 reps on the bench at 230lbs and said his max is around 350.

Think the record holder at the combine is Stephen Paea who did an insane 49 reps at the combine. His max bench is like 550lbs or something like that....

The bench is literally the least important drill at the entire combine, tbh.
