Butch on 790 right now

how many coaches of ours during the past 25 years have stayed here for 5 years or more? I would be happy with 5 years of Davis to get things back.

With 'The U Pt. 2' coming out, bringing Butch back would put butts in the seats and add a much needed buzz to this dead program. From a marketing/business stand point, it would be a fantastic move.

Is this real? I mean,......is it really possible that we could have Butch Davis (proven winner at Miami) as our Head Football Coach and the people in charge are choosing to continue with Al Golden (proven loser at Miami)? Someone tell how this is possible..

1 big issue with Butch is his age. He's 63, which in recruiting is a major negative. If you bring him in, gotta expect him to be here atleast 5 years. That puts him almost 70. Sorry but a 70 year old just doesnt have the energy motivation to run a program and recruit with these young guns. While he would be a great leader and coach i just dont think he has it in him at his age. I know Saban is similar age but hes been doing it year in year out and has build such a rep players line up to play for Bama. Doesnt take nearly as much.

Want to know who's also about that age? Coach L. Doesn't seem to slow him down. And he's not going anywhere else. This is his final stop, as it would be for Butch. Also, look at Bill Snyder at KSU. Still producing winners in his second time at that school.

I spoke with Butch 18 months ago for a while. He flat out told me he wanted to coach at Miami again, that he regretted leaving, that in retrospect it was his biggest mistake, that he was upset about how things transpired back then, and that he believes he could have had a dynasty at Miami.

He then asked me how plugged in I was with boosters to make it happen. Lol. I told him I lived in Tampa and wasn't particularly connected with our football program, but that there were many of us that would support his return.

Interesting in that I came away thinking that he's had a lot of time to reflect on things that had happened and was sincere. I do believe that his cancer diagnosis, treatment, and subsequent recovery, have played a role in his current mindset. More sincere and more mature than I ever recalled him being back then. Just comes with time and experience I guess.

I've also talked to Schiano also. I'm pretty sure he would come as well. He's built for the college game. He's all in as a coach and always trying to hone his skill set. My $.02 are that he would be a successful coach at Miami.

Lastly and more an anecdote than anything else, I've talked to Gruden. He always denies having had any interest in Miami but does so with a smile. More of an opinion of mine than what was directly told to me, but I think Jay Gruden would come here if things don't work out in Cincy based on conversations I've had with other local people around me.

Once again read the other post. Huge difference in being an older college hoops coach than college football coach.

So according to ___THEU___, Davis's 63 years is more of a detriment than Saban's 63 years. Makes sense.

_THEU_ is the same ******* that was supporting Golden not too long ago on these boards.

I wasnt supporting AG i was supporting the team. And i said buyout buyout was a major issue. Get your facts straight. Big difference than being a disloyal piece of **** boycotting the program and negative recruiting, hoping for losses than supporting AG.

Watch the replay of the 2000 Sugar Bowl or the FSU game that same year. Not saying we have the same horses on the D-Line like back then, but you tell me Butch wouldn't take the leash off our boys up front instead of a "wait and see, take care of two gaps, patty-cake" SKEEM, and I bet you'd see better results.

**** it, I promised myself I'd stop getting excited about this topic!!

I know for a fact I'll be in the minority on this board (nothing new) but of the 3 names you listed...Butch would be my least favorite choice.

I've been on record for a while now saying Schiano would kill it here....I never even contemplated Jay Gruden but obviously I'd be ecstatic with that hire as well.

I wouldn't hate the Butch hire as much as I hated the Shannon hire when it happened...but I'm old enough to remember just how bad a gameday coach Butch is. I'm thoroughly convinced 3/4 of this board has come down with a bad case of selective amnesia.

People dont wanna hear anything rational. Im telling it like it is and not how everyone dreams up in there head. Im not some kid living in his mom's basement posting in between games of Halo. Im speaking real **** here.

I'm surprised that Blake James doesn't just negotiate a buyout. Make it a win-win and let Golden go. He tried, didn't succeed, and not s good fit. Carry on. Go get Butch.

How in the name of ******* **** can you type "supporting the team" and inference that to supporting Golden, whether directly or indirectly.

Just shut up already dude. Losses in the current state of things are the ONLY thing giving us HOPE at MAYBE getting rid of that piece of garbage.

Once again read post on Snyder. He would fail miserably here.

Just because you have an opinion doesn't mean it's correct and everyone else is being irrational.

By your logic, any coach around the age of 63 can't recruit. That's absurd. As others have stated, the assistants do most of the legwork. They're the ones constantly tweeting and stuff like that. The head coach sets the tone and acts as the closer.

Plus I think the time off has invigorated Butch. He laments walking away from a potential dynasty, and he has unfinished business.
