Great interview overall, but one thing that really stuck out were his comments about the offensive line.

Butch said he always had talented skill position players at Miami, and that was never an issue. But what brought them to the next level, and what he believes turns an 8-9 win team into a title contender is the offensive line.

He said it wasn't until they got Bibla, McKinnie, Romberg, Sherko and Joaquin all next to each other and rolling that they made the leap into a great team. You have to be able to control games, the clock, and dominate with your OL, or you'll never be great.

We all knew it starts in the 'trenches, guysm!?!' But it was cool to hear his thoughts, and also disturbing because as he was talking, I had flashbacks of Gadbois and Isadora getting thrown 15 yards backwards.

Thanks for sharing. Couldn't agree more. I can't say it would solve all our issues but it would hide a lot of warts. Freshman QB would look much better and play calling would not look as terrible as it does now. Long scoring drives when you can run the ball would help our defense look even better and hide some depth issues. If oline was dominate 10 wins would be a realistic expectation. I think our oline will improve over next few games but doubt it will be considered dominate. Next years line could be much better. Especially if Flowers were to stay. Seems like I'm always saying/thinking "next year". Really can't believe Darling and KC wouldn't be a better option than current starters. They will take their lumps like Kaaya but long run be better for it.

You are only as good as your weakest link. Flowers and Feliciano are decent subs for Bibla and McKinnie. McDermott is not Romberg, but he's a decent center. So it's what we all know right now, the right side is a big problem. We have no good option there, all young guys. Of the 5 guys in the mix, two need to step up.

We have actually recruited some supposedly decent talent at OL. However, very few seem to live up to the hype. The unit as a whole is just dreadful, I can live with the left side but the right side from the center over is painfully bad. It's sad to see how often our OL get treated like high school kids against just about everyone.

I'll stand by that. Flowers and Feliciano are one of the best tandems in CFB. Both kids will play in the NFL for quite a while if they stay healthy.

McKinnie went 7th in the draft.

He was one of the most highly-decorated football players at Miami. He was a superstar.

In 2001, McKinnie was the winner of the Outland Trophy, finished 8th overall in voting for the Heisman Trophy, was the CNN Sports Illustrated "Player of the Year. McKinnie received first-team All-American honors in 2000, and was recognized as a unanimous first-team All-American in 2001.

McKinnie was as dominant a player as they come. Flowers isn't in his universe.

You don't have to give me a recap of Mckinnie. I saw every down he ever played at the U. I didn't say Flowers was as good as McKinnie, I said he was a decent sub. If Flowers stays here all 4 years, he's very likely a 1st round pick. To say that's he's not in his universe is just a poor evaluation on your part.

Our offensive line has been the least of our problems.

Our sack percentage over the past two years has been very solid (31st and 32nd, higher than Alabama and Wisconsin). Our yards per rush attempt has been a little above average nationally (48th and 51st), and it's been elite when Duke has been running the ball. Our rushing yards per game are in the lower half, but that has more to do with the playcalling. It has not been a Top 10 unit or anything like that, but easily one of the better groups in the conference.

The two inexperienced starters on the right side had a rough first game in Louisville, but the real problem was numbers. We did not adjust to Louisville stacking the box.

We take a lot of high upside/high risk guys at this spot. When you get a Bryant McKinnie or a Bibla or a Romberg it's wonderful, but when you stack up too many Odogwu type "hopes" (and that's not a knock on the kid, he might turn out to be awesome some day, but right now too much of the OL roster is still in "prospect" phase and not "player" phase) or guys that are lightly recruited but have wonderful achilles tendons it can really hurt if they don't hit. I'm not an Art hater like some here, I do feel like he's helped the U achieve so much and was a big part of all of it, but results need to get a lot, LOT better REALLY quick.

Greaseball shouldn't need a once in a lifetime player like McKinnie to win a lot more games. He should be able to beat some of these teams with a potential first rounder in Flowers filling that McKinnie spot. Feliciano is better than guys like Sherko too.

Our OL is plenty talented and deep to perform way better than they are.

Exactly. There isn't an OL in the world that's going to block 9 guys running downhill on you like UL did. We came out in tight power sets all night and were predictable all night. Any reasonably competent defense will beat you up when you do what we did.
