Butch Davis would’ve had this team competing with Clemson

That's not it. His magic was being able to identify under the radar guys. Before the proliferation of the internet and scouting services. The world is just not the same anymore, which almost entirely negates the competitive advantage he had at Miami.

Usually under the radar means unnoticed for some reason. Butch could tell if a kid who just wasn’t that good yet was going to be much much better in two years. Lot of stars are at their peak and then do not get better in college. Butch found guys who were going to blossom late and be huge surprise.

Sure, I'm not going to argue against that. But "under the radar" was WAY different 20 years ago, because the radar had infinitely smaller range.

He would have won three national titles in ONE year!
He would have drank 168 beers on a flight from New York to Los Angeles!
He would have brought Sebastian's pipe back!
He would have got us an on-campus stadium with a waterpark attached to it!
He would have only recruited 7-star players and all of them would have won Heismans!

Y'all are grown men acting like Butch Davis is Santa Claus. Such a great HC and yet still has zero rings and the best coaching job he could get is FIU.
Even assuming your assessment of Davis is correct consider that he is still a better coach than any of the bozos we have had since. Just let that sink in.

I mean what’s so hard to understand? He built the best team of all time. With record NFL players. He’s still coaching. I wouldn’t rack your brain any harder trying to figure out why the board is infatuated with him.
This ^^^^. How can some of our fans diss the performance of someone who assembled the greatest collection of talent on one team...EVER! These weren't just good players. They included NFL HOF caliber players like Ed Reed, Reggie Wayne, Frank Gore, Sean Taylor (maybe the best safety ever -- with Reed right behind him), Vince Wilfork, Andre Johnson and Clinton Portis. Players like Shockey, Winslow, DJ Williams, McKinnie, Rolle, Buchanan, McGahee, Najeh and Vilma made a significant impact in the NFL too. The roster had a record number of first round picks on it. They destroyed ranked teams putting up over 60 points. At the Rose Bowl (which I attended), they could have hung 70 on Nebraska if Coker hadn't called off the dogs. That supposed to be the #2 team in the nation. The '01 team made the Huskers look like a pee-wee league football team.

If you want to criticize Butch's departure from Miami (which the Administration is in large part responsible for), go right ahead. However, to criticize the job he did building the Canes into the most dominant team ever in CFB is simply crazy.

Also, don't point to him "not being able to get any other job other than FIU" as rationalizing your argument. That is SOLELY a result of the scandal at UNC. Without that, a ton of top programs would have wanted Butch.

Had we chosen Butch over CMR, we would likely be playing for a spot in the CFB playoffs next year and back to elite status. Blake James made a "safe" and politically correct decision by hiring CMR over Butch.

On the career it's pretty debatable Butch is a better overall coach than Richt. Say anything you want about this past year, the playcalling, etc. If you're doing a true apples-to-apples comparison (recruiting classes, conference championships, draft picks, win %, etc.) it's probably pretty comparable.

I'm not, at all, saying Butch is a bad coach. I just find it hilarious how many people on these boards want his balls in their mouth. He's not coming back, ever, and even if he did, I sure wouldn't expect the same results.

Those are all fair points but I would say that the critical difference is that Butch would have a much better understanding of how to be successful at Miami. Butch would be smart enough to know that in this day and age especially, you don't run a slow, plodding antiquated offense here when your geographical recruiting base is light on quality offensive linemen but filthy rich with kids who posses speed, explosiveness and electrifying playmaking ability. Also under Butch we wouldn't be seeing the incompetence bordering on negligence in recruiting.

Ummm, ok
But Butch still antiquated
Except I watched his team execute a 2 min drill with less than a minute and look like the Patriots running up to the line and getting a play off with minimal time off the clock. Meanwhile we ran out of time with 20 yards to gain with 4 mins on the clock and two timeouts. Has been. Lol

He was 3-1 against Miami at UNC and has won 9 games this year at one of the worst programs in division 1. He wins proof is in the pudding. Richt is a loser, he’s proven that. 3 four game losing streaks in 3 years. Against the likes of Virginia, Duke and Boston College.

Butch Davis would of kidnapped all the croots and Sabans Helicopter would of been purposely sabotaged.

I'm not comparing Richt to Butch, just telling you that we would not be better with Butch

Butch has had his 15 minutes and it's gone!

Are you that dumb? Read my original post. Who really knows what Butch would’ve done for this program but I could assure you as of today, ANYONE and I mean ANYONE could’ve done what Richt has done in three years here.

We are a laughing stock across America right now. Richt was, Richt is and Rixht will always be mediocre and will always be satisfied with it. Winning is not at the forefront of his purpose and thats a huge problem, I don’t care what level or sport you play, that’s unacceptable. He is a terrible coach he gets blown out in every big game he plays. The LSU game is the epitome of Richt. Ranked 6th and blown out 30-3 by half.

Everybody had a winning record vs Miami back then. Lane won 11 games with a worse FAU program. Also UAB won Butch’s conference two years after not having a football team. Don’t act like Butch is doing something monumental. He did the impossible 20 years ago but that was 20 YEARS AGO
