Butch Davis was the Right Choice

Why? He has won more than 9 games once. That's unacceptable around here. Lol we would have the same record with Butch with this team. Only people that want Butch coaching anything is nostalgic Miami fans. He will never coach here again. Let it go.

I'd rather be a nostalgic miami fan than a soft loser fan of today's miami hurricanes. It's an embarrassment to be a canes fan these days. Butch is a general who has coached successful teams in the nfl and ncaa. Richt is a soft coach like golden. 15 years 0 titles at georga.

You really shouldn't attache your self worth to a college football team...just some friendly advice.

Tom Herman wasn't coming to Miami. He used SC as a bargaining tool to get more Houston money.

Butch got fired. Fired for NCAA violations. No school has hired him as a result and Miami only now is finishing its probation.

Richt is an alumnus with 2 SEC titles and head coach of the #3 school in 2007.

Sorry, but these are all facts. To say that the adminsitration didn't want to win is absurd.

20 vacancies have occured in the last year and none were filled by Butch.

Please tell us, if we had not hired Richt, who would have hired him?
Richt had 3 job offers in first week. Virginiawas one and can not remember who else.

Butch's record vs. Va Tech:

@ Miami: 1-5 (didn't win one until his last season);
@ UNC: 1-3... actually 0-4, that win was vacated.

Total: 1-9. Yes, having him on the sideline Thursday would've made all the difference. You people are insane.

You seem to conveniently forget that UM went into a manpower HOLE. But he pulled us out of that hole and built the best college team EVER.

Then, UNC at that time, had won like four games the year before he got there - they were NEVER a football power - and it was his teams that started kicking UM's *** when they played us - an entirely new experience.

You want to measure Butch when he was standing in a four foot deep hole. Twice.

Bunch of swishy-tailed panty waists who select their data.

Should have hired Butch.

Richt looking more like Radar on the sideline. No emotion. NOTHING!

At least Butch would have everyone fighting and clawing every play to win.

We should've went with Fuente truthfully

How anybody negs this is beyond me.

from what I understand it's because he's known for being a pitiful recruiter

I've seen what butch build and it took a him a while but he built an unstoppable freight train which is why I wanted him. Terrible game day coach, conservative, blah blah.. down 30+ scholarships for years and builds the greatest team ever 6 years into it that didn't lose a game for another 3 with clappy coaching them.

It was a sure thing, that's why I wanted him. Then after the ferrari is running all cylinders, then you go get a fuente or fedora or whomever

He had Memphis looking awesome. So either he CAN recruit or he's just an amazing X and O's guy.

Even if he was a poor recruiter at Memphis, that doesn't mean he'll recruit poorly at Miami. Show me a kid in South FLA that wouldn't wanna play in that offense. We'd be scoring a ton of points and winning football games. That recruits itself.

How many of Butch's staff ended up as NFL NCs? Now many of Mark's will? Forgetting recruiting it is still not even close. Mark was supposedly better at coaching and game day. That is certainly in doubt now.

LOL. Butch's UNC teams were not kicking Miami's a$$.

Those UNC teams had a ton of NFL talent and always under-achieved.

FEDORA's UNC teams have been kicking Miami's a$$ and yet we have no desire to consider him. (but we want old a$$ Butch)

Fedora with UM/South Florida athletes( with his style of QB) would be amazing. But he would need a very strong, respected DC to really make it work

Don't waste your energy, Mach. These clowns in their high waisted Wranglers are permanently stuck in a time warp.

Unfortunately, it's not even a realistic time warp. It's a time warp where Butch Davis is some super coach who wasn't 15-17 overall in the ACC with rosters loaded with NFL players. It's a time warp where he wasn't the bytch in every rivalry game on his schedule.

He did a nice job getting the #1 JUCO QB who just made mincemeat of us.

Butch should have been the guy hired to restore Miami to elite status and win championships

Butch?
You mean the same Butch that got bannered during the 1997 season?
The same Butch that was getting yelled at by our fellow fans at the OB during
the 2000 season because he wasn't running up the score on teams?
That Butch?
LOL at this fan base.

It should of been him but we talking bout Miami now .......i would of liked Herman alot

herman was never coming here people

just stop

If Miami had taken the 20 million that they gave Richt over five years and offered it to Herman over three, you think he would've turned that down?

7 mil a year for three years. Kick *** with South Florida athletes and then go the NFL.

Boom.

I hate to break it to the board but after Herman's extension last year, his base salary is still around $3MM. Currently, Richt's base salary is $4MM.

If Miami was serious, they could have made Herman their number one priority. They could have at least offered him Richt's money (which is more than Houston). They should have offered him at least $5MM as a base salary.

I don't see Herman turning down a base of that amount and a serious offer last year.

I'll admit he was my number 1 with butch davis at 2 but.. that being said

he just gave up 46 points to navy in a loss and then let tulsa drop 31 in a 7 point win

that aura is starting to wear off really quickly

also while there's no definitive proof we went after him, one can rightfully assume that he didn't want to go anywhere in the first place since he could have went ANYWHERE.. and chose to stay right where he's at

this notion that we could have thrown that money at him and he would have come.. ok so that stopped all the other schools from the doing the same thing ESPECIALLY usc?

Atrocious porst

I'm pretty sure Houston was set on joining the Big 12. If they did Herman gets a 2.5Mil bonus each year bumping his salary to 5.5 Mil. Not sure he was answering calls last year.

I doubt it.

The butch d*ck lickers are out in full force I see... if he wanted to coach at Miami then he shouldn't have bolted. We wouldn't have had to endure our decline from the remaking of our dynasty if he hadn't left after the 2000 season.

I know Virginia was seriously after him. Many thought he was going take time off and probably would have if not for Miami.

Question:
Butch Davis took over a 10-2, sixth ranked team that had an outside shot at winning the National Championship going into the Bowl games the previous year.
What was his record through 7 games in his first year of coaching?

Nevermind, I got it right here:
UCLA L (finished 7-5, unranked)
Florida A&M W
Virginia Tech L (finished #10 )
FSU L (finished #4 )
Rutgers W (finished 4-7)
Pitt W (finished 2-9)
Temple W (finished 1-10)

Record: 4-3 with wins vs FL A&M and 3 teams that finished the season with a total of 7 wins.

Yes, Butch built one of the most talented teams ever, but fans were calling for his head as late as the second game of his 6th and final year here.

After being dessemated with sanctions. After that second loss in 2000, I believe that team was better than 2001. That's coaching.

1996 Miami

Ryan Clement, Edgerrin James, Yatil Green, KC Jones, Kenny Holmes, Kenard Lang, Twan Russell, Earl Little, Tremain Mack, and Duane Starks

#12 ranked Miami lost to East Carolina 31-6 in Miami.

1999 Miami

Kenny Kelly, Ken Dorsey, James Jackson, Clinton Portis, Santana Moss, Reggie Wayne, Bubba Franks, Joaquin Gonzales, Damione Lewis, William Joseph, Matt Walters, Dan Morgan, Nate Webster, Al Blades, Leonard Myers, Mike Rumph, Ed Reed, and Philip Buchanon.

#9 ranked Miami lost to East Carolina 27-21 in North Carolina.

That's coRching.

2010 UNC football had 9 players drafted in the 2011 NFL draft, tied with USC for most that year.

Butch was 8-5, 4-4 in the ACC.

That's coRching.
