Butch Davis to FIU

Genuine good guy who has acknowledged that leaving Miami was one of his biggest mistakes in his career. Had a chill job at ESPN but loves coaching. Wish him all the best and I hope he can make FIU relevant and competitive in conference USA.

They won't be competing with us for recruits anytime soon. And if a kid is on the fence, he doesn't belong at UM.

Lulz @ Paul being a genuine good guy.

He lied to the players before leaving for Cleveland, and he used the deaths of Bryan Pata and Sean Taylor to trash Miami when he was at UNC.

No. That's BS.

He was staying. Butch and UM had pretty much agreed to his contract, but then UM changed it up and wanted all the payout to come from Butch's side.

UM was ******** him, and he walked.

He didn't lie - he thought everything was good to go.

UM is the side that tossed his contract.

His final unc team to be that still won 8 games despite the massive suspensions, removals and scandal showed how good they were going to be.

If that scandal doesn't happen that would have been a 11-12 win team IMHO.

Story with quotes from Shockey and McKinnie, with McKinnie saying Paul told the team he was staying:

Butch League Butch Davis left Miami scrambling when he betrayed his players and bolted for a big-money deal with the Browns

Another story how Paul lied to recruits before he left for Cleveland:

Because he really thought Miami was going to do the right thing and fix his contact. He actually turned down Cleveland the first time and wanted Miami to fix it. Miami didn't and Cleveland came back with more money (IIRC, 5 million per year which was huge then) so he left. No rational person can blame him, Miami was at fault.

Still hard to believe such a god among men and exemplary human being fell into FIU's lap like he did.

I'm sure Texas and LSU are kicking themselves now.

****, y'all straight up bustin nuts in here over Butch lol...

I'm sure the Panthers will greatly appreciate the new influx of fans they'll see over at Ocean Bank.

It'll be hilarious if they ever get a game on ESPNU, the crowd will be filled with dried up Canes fans wearing Blue & Gold.

FIFY

Best case scenario is Butch proves that 2000(Miami) wasn't a fluke...He builds a great program at FIU, gets them inline to join a G5 conference....then bolts them to come back to Miami and build another squad that can match or taste the legend of 2001.

Other Scenario: Butch proves 2000 (Miami) was a fluke, and 2001-2003 Miami was proof he was a corch that can only identify talent and recruit. He fails at FIU and we continue to not care and/or laugh at him.

Butch will be 95 by the time all that happens. If Bill Synder, why not Butch.

Yeah, and Saban wasn't leaving LSU, Pete Carroll was staying at USC, and Pine Sol will cover up the stank of a doo doo.

UM screwed Butch, and it was likely the midget that got her fingers in it.

Stop deflecting.

Paul Davis lied to his players, he lied to his recruits, and he tried to use the deaths of Bryan Pata and Sean Taylor to his benefit.

I'm a Butch guy all the way. He is the best talent evaluator, knows the better coaches and can assemble the best defenses. I respect Richt, but we know he ain't in Butch's category. That's just fact and experience.

No, he didn't. See the facts above. Dead serious, did Butch bang your lady?

Richt's career >>> Paul Davis' career

Bryant McKinnie and Buck Ortega say otherwise.

White knighting for a coRch that can't beat East Carolina, Virginia, Va Tech, Ga Tech, Florida St., or NC St. makes you look fuggin ridiculous.

White knighting for a coRch that used the deaths of Pata and Taylor to negative recruit against Miami makes you look fuggin ridiculous.
