Butch Davis to FIU?

Two seasons of 2 win football and he retires.

Has he been hired yet? He was on his radio show yesterday as a co-host. Weird place for a HC.

If they hire him, he's going there with the express purpose of trying to make other programs forget about the UNC debacle. His thinking is he'll go to FIU for a couple years, get them to 8 wins and fly out the door like a thief in the night. Unfortunately, he's not going to win there.

Yeah youngin.

That's the only explanation as to why a logical man would think that the most gifted talent evaluator that college football has ever seen would somehow fail vs Conference USA teams when his HQ is literally smack dab in the middle of the greatest HS football talent bed on the planet.

Jesus wept

You said FIU would beat Miami if Bortch goes there, that's some real :monkey-serious:

Jesus wept

Really? I said that? Can you find that quote for me?

Schmendrick

.

That was pure sarcasm to the "pal" comment.

Sorry it went right over your head but I'm not surprised.

Nice try

Sure he will. He'll dazzle some local coaches with his downhome bonhomie and get some pretty good B and C recruits who don't want to wait on FSU, Taint, or what's going on in the Gables. It's not like CUSA is the SEC West. He just has to get his kids on some TV games and score an upset or two, the It's out the door.

Assuming he's offered and accepts, and there is no guarantee of either, this is the most likely scenario. He goes there to cobble together a few wins over a couple of seasons and then tries to parlay that into a better opportunity. Most likely outcome is that he has little to no success in the w/l column and finally retires with something like a 9-27 record at FIU

What if one of those 9 wins was over Miami? That would be a little funny in a depressing way.

If he's desperate and dopey enough to jump into that Mexican toilet, and Garcia manages to boondoggle his old pal into a sweetheart deal, the overwhelming odds would have him fizzling out like an alka seltzer in the ocean.

He's not getting anything but Plan Z guys to jump into that toilet with him. He won't get anyone decent unless the kid is agoraphobic who never wants to be seen on TV or be heard from again.

He's already 65+ kinda late in the game to do the stepping stone thing. Even if he's successful at FIU, who's gonna hire a coach to build their program who's already pushing 70?

He is a home run hire for FIU. They would be way out of their league with a guy like Butch at the helm.

He would clown Conf. USA

How's Butch gonna post a winning record in conference USA with FIU when he couldn't post a winning record in the ACC with North Carolina?

You mean the 3-9 UNC?

He sure set them up to beat UM's ***.

Right...they had no issue from the word GO beating Miami's a$$ all across the field. A real shame too because I am a staunch MIAMI fan.

So he beat a 5 win, Randy Shannon coached Miami team? Congrats. So did everybody. Doesn't change the fact that Davis never had a winning record in ACC play. Even Al Golden had winning teams with winning conference records. I mean if mediocre coaching, never winning more than 8 games and a program roiled in NCAA sanctions is your goal. Than you've got your man.

Just like his year 2000, with HIS players, Butch's last year at UNC - he had his best players yanked from his team because the school was doing NCAA violation crap for years before he got there - and he still went 8-5.

You don't know your history, you don't know what was happening at UNC, and as far as I can tell, you didn't know **** yesterday, you don't know **** today, and the future's not looking good either.

Mediocre coach who caught lightning in a bottle sixteen years ago and hasn't done anything of significance since. Yawn.

But would you agree that the last great team we had was constructed by Butch Davis?

Sure, has nothing to do with him coaching FIU though. He constructed the greatest collection of talent ever seen on one team, and still couldn't win a ship.

Best talent evaluator I've ever seen, average to below average coach. He won't be able to out talent people at FIU.

LMFAO

Do you think the goal for FIU is to win an NC with Butch?

Jesus wept. FIU bro.....FIU.....what is success considered at FIU?

Jesus wept

Who said anything about championships at FIU?

So then your argument is that Butch Davis won't be able out talent Conference USA when his HQ is in the 305?

You must be a teenager.

either that or a eunuch.
