Butch Davis is going to save us from Manny Diaz

Butch assembled the greatest CFB football team ever. I simply don't understand how that isn't viewed as an incredible achievement. Love him or hate him that is an amazing feat (particularly coming off sanctions). I'd take a 67 year old Butch all day every day. He can hire a great staff under him and be a figurehead/recruiter/talent evaluator. We would be back on top of CFB within 2 years.

I think it's moronic that he hasn't been brought back by the admin & the program has been mired in mediocrity. Egos need to be set aside for the sake of this once great program.

No doubt Butch was and probably still is a good coach. You also need to remember that Butch never won a title with that time or any other. College football recruiting was also different in the '90s then it is now (thanks internet).

Butch was somewhat recently recruiting & developing really good players at UNC. His D had a bunch of NFL prospects.... fast....

Davis had players running afoul of NCAA impermissible benefits rule and engulfed in a academic cheating scandal, his bag-man John Blake was busted taking kickbacks from an agent. Davis was never incriminated wink, wink...... Totally respect Davis for what he did at UM, but even the most ardent UM fan has to admit it would have been a stretch bringing Davis back in the face of that.

Nonsense. He was not involved.

The answer to your specific question, no coach in the last decade has won a National Championship at the age of 68 or older (Butch turns 68 in November). In fact, based on my research (google), only one coach in 150 years of college football has won a National Championship at an older age (Bowden age 70).
And once again, there is no evidence Butch coudn't be the first to do so. As a matter of fact, based on your "age" criteria, which is an objective metric, not a person, there is a much higher chance that a person age 68 would win it. You are trying to conflate age, a number, with individual performance, a Red Herring. Saban and Belechick actually provide a strong correlation between metric "age" and championships.
The fact remains, all your younger "age" coaches, Coker, Shannon, Golden, Richt and Diaz, have been an abject disaster. Your "age" based hiring criteria is a total failure, here at UM.

At this point, we don't need Butch to win a title.... just bring him in to build this program back.
