Butch Davis is going to save us from Manny Diaz

Davis had players running afoul of NCAA impermissible benefits rule and engulfed in a academic cheating scandal, his bag-man John Blake was busted taking kickbacks from an agent. Davis was never incriminated wink, wink...... Totally respect Davis for what he did at UM, but even the most ardent UM fan has to admit it would have been a stretch bringing Davis back in the face of that.
Sounds like he's totally qualified for what we need then. Need to take the gloves off.

So its actually been done by at least 4 others. IOW you have no idea whether he would or wouldn't based on his age. Classic Red Herring.
Stastically, based on the last decade, what age coach that we could realistically hire, gives the best chance of championship?

Just because a coach as old or older than Davis has one a National Championship doesn't mean that hiring Butch would give us much of a probability of doing so. Butch would be the oldest coach to win his first title. This, of course, doesn't make it impossible but improbable. Statistical probability almost always exists. It exists for guys like Howard, Jimmy, even YOU. It just isn't probable that a guy would win his first National Title at 67 years of age.

That would also depend on % of coaches in certain age groups.

Yea nvm.

The answer to your specific question, no coach in the last decade has won a National Championship at the age of 68 or older (Butch turns 68 in November). In fact, based on my research (google), only one coach in 150 years of college football has won a National Championship at an older age (Bowden age 70).

Bobby Bowden was born in 1929 and won his first championship in 1993 at the age of 64.

Somebody's got to be the oldest. Records are made to be broken. Why not Butch?

Butch isn't the coach Saban is.
Butch assembled the greatest CFB football team ever. I simply don't understand how that isn't viewed as an incredible achievement. Love him or hate him that is an amazing feat (particularly coming off sanctions). I'd take a 67 year old Butch all day every day. He can hire a great staff under him and be a figurehead/recruiter/talent evaluator. We would be back on top of CFB within 2 years.

I think it's moronic that he hasn't been brought back by the admin & the program has been mired in mediocrity. Egos need to be set aside for the sake of this once great program.
