Bus from Chicago to South Bend

Hey All, long time member of the site, but have never posted previously - and no - I'm not a troll - lol! I'm on the site every day multiple times and can't get enough of it. Shoutout to @DMoney for running the best 'Canes site in the biz!

I grew up going to games at the Orange Bowl and moved to Chicago over 20 years ago and live downtown, two blocks off Michigan Avenue. If any of you need recommendations for restaurants, hotels, things to do, etc., feel free to reach out and I'll do my best to assist you.

I'm driving to the game with a fellow 'Canes fan and for those of you who aren't sure, South Bend is about 90 minutes plus of a drive from downtown Chicago, as I've done it multiple times.

What’s your go to for best old school Italian? I’m talking wood panels, lasagna, and meatballs. In my research, I’ve seen some good modern/more authentic Italian spots but I’d rather lean more towards classic Chicago than Michelin star, if that makes sense.

I've only been a couple times, but https://lascarola.com/ might check most or all of your boxes. It's popular and been around for a while, but my personal favorite Italian restaurant in the city is Francesca's on Chestnut (200 E. Chestnut St.). You can spit and hit a few really good Italian restaurants as they're all over the place.

Nice third post! Hit the nail on the head. La Scarola checks your boxes (and is also my fav Italian spot in a city full of good ones). The pasta highlights for me are the linguini and clams in white sauce and the rigatoni chiaverini. They've perfected both relatively simple dishes. Just a heads up...they are right next to a bar that allows indoor smoking and the smell can creep sometimes. Not my personal favorite part. Make sure to give them a call and make a reservation a few weeks in advance.

The NY Times recently recommended a newish French-inspired steakhouse in River North. It’s called The Alston. Ever heard of it or been there?

i generally do not trust out of state newspapers to provide advice on the quality of restaurants in another state. much better sauces you can scrape
