2028 Brysen Wright WR Mandarin

When looking at the differences between Wright and Smith, it’s important to note Jeremiah Smith wasn’t an ultra-burner although his speed was strong. JJ ran a 22.08 (3.3) in the 200m.

In hurdles, JJ is very similar to AJ Randle. AJ’s PR is 14.28 and JJ’s PR is 14.34 in the 110m H. Don’t know JJ’s 40 time, but this information alongside his extensive track & field profile doesn’t suggest he is running high 4.2s or low 4.3s on demand. Obviously he has gotten faster since enrolling at OSU. But we’ll have to wait and see if he runs at the combine as school released times may contain fluff or omissions of the many slower times while including the fastest outlier.

Only track time for Brysen Wright i see is that he ran a 13.98 100m four months before turning 11, which is absurdly fast for that age.

I see a ton of contested catches on JJ’s highlights too. The thing about JJ is that he was incredible in the biggest games, especially the three straight title runs, and had monster performances against the best competition i.e. 17 catches 321 receiving yards and 3 TDs against Bergen Catholic as a senior.

I’d say that next step for Wright is to have an unstoppable game, against tough competition, like that with 12+ catches and 250+ receiving yards & multiple touchdowns. He wasn’t that far off from a 3-phase domination game against McArthur if the PR TD doesn’t get called back bcuz of a flag.

His wingspan as a freshman was measured at 80.1” inches and he ran a laser-timed 4.61 @ 14 years old; compared to Chris Henry Jr who had 78.4” inch wingspan and a 4.59 laser-timed forty. Chris is old for his grade; turned 19 in July so 37 months older than BW. Hard to see how Brysen won’t end up as at least as a mid/high 4.4 athlete; if he isn’t already close to there tbh.

At the combine this year, CJ Daniels ran a 4.62, Carnell Tate ran a 4.53, Colbie Young ran a 4.49, and Omar Cooper ran a 4.42 for similarly sized WRs if we’re tryna project out his future speed/suddenness.

NGL after watching dude, I see a pretty good athlete who has Elite skill/Body control when the ball is in the air and he's certainly worthy of a 5 star rating. however i dont see a sure-fire generational talent like I saw with JJ Smith who displayed a diff level of explosiveness. That being said I hope he comes to the U and proves me all the way wrong..

You are doing the lords work to try to get this thread back on track. Respect.

I’ll engage with this one.

I think it is a fair assessment to say Brysen needs to have that “take over the game 250yd performance against a quality opponent.” But I don’t think it’s necessarily fair to compare JJs full body of work compared to Brysens first two years in highschool.

I’m not saying Wright is going to be better than JJ, he might, but I’m not going to claim that just yet.

But I will say, I’ve been to several Mandarin games over the first few years and Wright dominated and his presence is felt in all three phases during the entirety of the game. For instance, last season they beat a tough Bradford team (11-2) 14-7. Wright was almost single handedly responsible for winning that one. He had roughly 150 yds receiving and scored the only two TD for Mandarin, one was a 80+ yd touchdown catch and the other was a 80+ yd touchdown punt return. Earlier that season, in a game against rival Atlantic Coast (not necessarily a quality opponent) he had a receiving TD, a punt return TD, and 2 INT, one of which went for a TD. The dude is a great receiver, but an even better football player. He’s a playmaker making plays all around the football field. He had almost 1000 yds receiving with over 1500 all purpose yds and 5 INT. He had 15 TD, 10 receiving, 3 pick sixes and 2 Punt return TD. Thats all as a sophomore in highschool on an 11-3 playoff team.

Also, I’ll say this Mandarin has put a heavier emphasis on running the football than Chaminade did during the last 2 years JJ played at Chaminade, last season Mandarin ran the ball 100 more times than Chaminade did in each of JJ Junior or Senior seasons.

If you compare apples to apples, JJ in his sophomore season had 556 receiving yards and 6 receiving td compared to Wrights 1000 yds & 10 tds. Also, JJ had 0 INT and was a non factor on special teams compared to Wright getting 5 INT (3 TD) and 2 punt return TD.

Agreed, and even after this year we won’t know the extent of the comparison as prospects because Smith’s dominance really went from extra-elite to unprecedented elite of the elite his senior season.

We missed out on the Amir Sears x Brysen Wright matchup last season when Buchholz beat Mandarin in the playoffs; however, in comparing like to like, Brysen had a better sophomore season than Smith without question.

Most def on the bolded. The one thing i wanted to kinda draw out why i think it’d be foolish to rule it out yet either: mainly because of the production differences, the more demanding role Wright had as the #1 WR as a sophomore comparatively to JJ being the #2, more endurance required for week after week playing in all 3 phases whereas JJ was used as a DB in highly infrequent situations, and the age difference being more important at the HS level than the collegiate level i.e. JJ turned 18 before his last two state playoffs/championship games while Wright won’t turn 18 until before week 0 of ncaa kickoff.

Amir Sears, just statistically, had a better receiving sophomore season than JJ did as a sophomore; and Amir like Wright played both sides of the ball and was the #1 option. Duane Thomas Jr was the #1 option for Chaminade when JJ was a sophomore; he had 53 receptions for 528 yards and 0 TDs last season at UCF; started his career at Charlotte.

Smith played less games as a sophomore because he transferred midway thru, but still, his production was comparable to what Jojo Trader did at Miami Central as a sophomore. Not to mention Chaminade just had so many more p4 and future NFL guys than Mandarin does.

Going through JJ’s track record, since he didn’t enroll early, was a good reminder of how much faster guys get from 16 to 17 to 18 to 19. And additionally, that purported 4.3 speed & sudden lateral movements of his isn’t publicly-tested-data available even if it’s valid; and if it is, he wasn’t running that fast until much further along than the stage BW is currently at.

Replied before seeing this post however it’s on point ofc. 247 credits JJ with 31 catches, 667 receiving yards, and 7 touchdowns which i presume include the stats from central/pace (idk which on one he went to as a sophomore; maybe both lol) prior to transferring over to Chaminade.

Chaminade’s RB for that year just transferred from UNC to NC State to join up with the rest of that Miami Gardens squad; presumably that’s one reason why NC State felt OKAY to lose Hollywood Smothers at the price Texas / Bama were willing to pay. And since NC State had Jayden Scott returning.

jj was at miami pace most of soph year.

Great post

It’s probably already been said many times but what shocked me was how Smith looked when he got to OSU

He looked like a senior in college physically. Built almost like a tight end

The amount of highly rated receivers that come through and then just get physically manhandled at the next level is unending. We’ve seen a ton here

Wright is still so young not sure he can get there physically like that but who knows

Also sidenote to bring it back to Canes talk that’s another thing about Mali. That added muscle and S&C he’s been doing…dude…what he did last year as a young fairly skinny kid is beyond comprehension. The way he looks and is moving now…it’s gonna be a show

All facts about JJ. By the time the playoffs came around, me and my friends were like is he the best player in college football already? And he was as a freshman.

It shook me because two years prior to that, me and my friends looked around and said, is Marvin Harrison Jr the best player in college football as a sophomore? & JJ was at that level as a freshman.

The surprise of Malachi Toney, and him not being a five star because of size meant — I definitely didn’t wanna lose him ofc; especially to Alabama of all places— that when he decommitted after reclassifying after the season we were having and the numbers offensively we were putting up, I was already dealing with the other decommits and was worried about Moore + Upshaw Stubbs etc + the playoff disappointment that I had to tune it all out lol.

Thankfully Mario held the fort down. Back to Toney as person, yeah. . I’ve just never seen a football player that good that young. It’s really remarkable and I know he’s going to be better but I’m almost not sure what to expect cuz last year was so, as the kids say, ‘Peak.’

I know it’s not Mario’s style but gimme more trick plays with him passing and handoffs please. Going to be so fun to watch

We got Swole Baby Jesus 😹😹😹😹

Big debate this week on who is better on my facebook social media groups (local miami) Brysen Wright or Ermon Lane.....Good times. lol

Currently a ton of guys saying....Ermon Lane... They are currently LOL'ing me for saying Brysen Wright has better ball skills

Find another FB group. These guys are clowns.

His dad has said no, not that it really means anything. But he’s said he isn’t reclassifying.

And if he did, he’d be so insanely young for college. Think about it, all we heard at the beginning of last year was how Mali was only 17. He turned 18 in September. Brysen Wright would be barely 17 at the start of his freshman year if he reclassified. He turned 16 yesterday.

Would a barely 17 year old start over Mali, Upshaw, Wingo, Parris, Nick, A1, and whoever else is here next year? I don’t think so. But if he stays in 2028, an 18 year old Wright probably does start. Really hard to say, we have such an insane WR room currently and headed into the future. This is the best the WR outlook has been in 25 years.

While I respect the points made, my counter to that -- Wasn't that Blount's age? So what if he sits for a year, he's gone in 3 if he stays in HS. Same outcome, more NIL and much much better development.

Genetics and hard work.

His family from where im from in The Bahamas are the most athletic on the island...its why fsu had a chance because his grand uncle a legend on the island ran the hurdles at fsu back in the day....then you got his 1st cousin geno smith....**** he has other grand uncles that were boxers etc..

another of his first cousins one of my day 1's is about 6'5-6'6 320 and use to dunk on e of the better hoopers.

*Mali looks like a stud currently...looking like his dad body type wise maybe even sturdier.

BFYE Wright one thing i like he is always down here n he gets work against the best... TYPICAL DUVAL N.FLA KIDS DONT DO ALL OF THAT BUT KID IS **** NEAR ADOPTED AT THIS POINT

I know it’s a typo but Toure is still here so….
Actually not a typo haha. What I meant to say is that in a cpl years we will have a complete wide receiver room. And I expect that to be the case every year until 2040 or whenever mario chooses to retire. 27 is the first real class where we are cool again and are recruiting at our programs potential. Just wait until we have 4 classes of this stacked in every position group on the team.

Gotcha and I totally agree with you

I don’t know how the wins and losses will play out but right we’ve got one of the best operations in the country. I know some people at other schools that are top notch and I don’t have tons of inside info about Miami, but you can tell we have the system in place to be successful long term

Crazy
I wonder how common this is gonna be
A kid with his own shoe, with that kind of hype comes a lot of expectations and pressure to not bust
Even this guy would be expected to come here
And immediately at minimum be wr 3
He’s walking into a room with nick and possible Amir with college s and c
U have wingo and spafford with 2 years
And other dudes who will be cooking in the lab

I don't think America realizes what is going to happen between 2028-2040.... Absolutely ridiculous talent. And I expect our roster to just reload until Marios retirement.

Seniors. one of the following (one pro):
Upshaw Senior
Moore Senior

Juniors:
Wingo
Paris
Spafford
Evans

Sophomores:
Lennear
Sears
Woodard

Freshman (projecting):
Brysen Wright
Tromon Isaac
Tuaone
Sears playing Wr or Db or both in college
