Bruce Feldman Says a Loss to UL puts Golden on THE HOT SEAT

Antwan, are you stalking me. Sorry dude, I don't swing that way. Great coaches will do more with less moron. You might as well post to your name, I'm new to CFB. Other than it is obvious.

You're the reason why there should be a qualifying test to post on message boards. You really think that coaches are judged by their less-talented years. Let's put it this way.......Nick Saban is a Hall of Famer because he won championships, not because he was somewhat competitive when the talent was down. But you don't get that.

Thank God you can't procreate, we have enough people living off the dole because they are lazy and stupid. Saban/Johnson/Shula/Belichek all the great coaches didn't fall into gigs with the best players moron. They were discovered with their coaching skills on getting more out of less. Is this really that hard to understand? You have shown you are slow at math, maybe logic in general and just thinking...

You're an expert at making a stupid statement and then changing what you meant when an actual college grad like myself calls you on it. The guy said that he would judge Golden this year since Golden has his players now. You, in your infinite wisdom, claimed that we should already be judging Golden for the years when he had less. When asked about Nick Saban's first year when he had less, you become a slobbering mongoloid and change it to how they did in their previous gigs.

82,I share some of the same concerns you do with Golden but the season is a week away and he's not getting fired this week. Why not wait a couple weeks and see how the team plays. This is year 4 everyone will finally find out if he's a fraud or not.

You should get your money back then. I didn't change anything. Giving any coach 3 years is dumber than this posting with you. Any one with 2 IQ points, other than you, can see Golden isn't an X and O coach. The hope and prayer is that he can recruit to winning, because he sure isn't getting there out coaching anyone. I have history backing me up tard. Coaches move up based on their previous stop. Example Chris Petersen with Boise State, Gary Patterson, both who have done more with less and have been pursued for opportunities at bigger recruiting budgets and higher level conferences. Saban was the same. He didn't do much at State, but he did more with less. Get it now ****less wonder...

It's NOT a "couple of weeks". We lose to UL, season is DONE. If he is anything but Radio 2.0, we will see it on Labor Day, and NOT with "impressive FAMU and Arky St, wins, Heaps is getting better" Until the Coastal division has a 4 team playoff, winner goes to the ACC CG, UL on Labor Day is EVERYTHING!

I'm looking forward to the season. I have high expectations. We will be the most talented team on the field in every game except 1. This year should be called "No More Excuses".

All you had to say was "I'm a whiny little btch who doesn't like Golden" instead of trying the awkward "judge them when they have less" routine. When someone like you tries to combine more than one train of thought, you get it all twisted up in your mind, and without flash cards, you end up with the train wreck you have posted in this thread.

Belichick would be nothing without Brady, his stint in Cleveland proves it. Saban was mediocre at MSU and lost to Louisiana Monroe his first year at Bama. Even Butch who is an amazing coach also sucked in Cleveland.

This year should be called "No More Excuses".

In other words, exactly like the other guy said when you called him out and said that Golden should have already been judged.

You have to be doing this on purpose.

He hasn't gotten a pass from me the last 3 years as that poster has given him. Big difference and if you had thought one in your head you would understand that.

I'm surprised you didn't mention my parents' basement. That usually goes hand in hand with the message board smack from 1998 that you're using here. What's next, are you going to challenge my reading comprehension? That's in the Hall of Fame too.

Why was he hired by New England? Why was Saban hired by LSU? Why was Jimmy Johnson hired by the U?

The seat is neither hot nor cold right now. It is a weird in between state of flux. In the opinion of the admin, if he loses to Louisville in a respectable showing (10 points or less) his seat will barely start to warm up. If he gets his brain bashed in like the Russell Athletic Bowl, the seat will officially be classified as warm. The Board of Trustees in particular wants to win immediately. Getting embarrassed on national TV again will melt away their already waning faith. While I hope/expect a 34-31 Miami win, if we assume the team loses, margin of defeat and quality of play will be the most closely analyzed factor rather than just the score alone.

President Shalala was ****ed about Penn State. It made her look incompetent. Her employee was MIA and not responding to the school. I've said it before and I'll say it again but her quote of, "We don't know anything yet." to the media about 5 hours after Blake James said he was chit chatting with Al regularly should tell you all you need to know.

The admin loved Golden. LOVED him. They gave him the world while here, by their standards, and he dealt with the NCAA during that saga. Penn State was viewed as a betrayal by them. The unity that they thought they had developed was tarnished. The office, both the athletic office and academic office, was flooded with bashing Al Golden emails when he came back. In Miami history, coaches that have left since we've been The U have either been pro football bound or fired. For Golden to look at another college job, alma mater or not, after getting the sweetest, highest paying contract for a football coach in school history, and getting placed on a pedestal after winning nothing was infuriating to many.

The admin knows the team is good enough to win 11 games with relative ease. Golden has personally pumped up how great the team is to them with quality, highly sought after players at every position. Questions at various positions including OL and QB mean nothing to the admin. Every team has questions and they know he was supposed to, by his own analysis, have above average talent at both positions. The man in charge told them how good the team is going to be this year. Therefore, the admin expects to win this year and win big. He talked a big game. They think it's time for him to deliver. Many people on here are pretty split on whether he will or wont.

Assuming the season does tank, fan response would be a major contributor as to whether Golden was retained. A lot of boosters were enraged about Penn State. These boosters are fans of the University of Miami first and foremost and it appeared to them that Golden made the school look bad in favor of an inferior institution in Penn State. Golden still has some important, high profile people on his side, but they want wins now. Season ticket sales be damned. If people stop going if the season tanks, which I hope it doesn't, and there is a USF like showing for the Pittsburgh game, the fanbase is clearly unhappy and the sports admin will have to act. The fans have dictated team direction. Coker was fired when we wanted him fired. Shannon was fired when we wanted him fired. Golden will go the same route when he loses the fans completely. And so far, the fans have been right in these scenarios.

Whoever said that finding another coach would be difficult is full of it and should go root for another team. This is and should be a destination job, not a stepping stone. When Golden was missing, multiple coaches and outstanding coaches at that were inquiring about the position. This is very different from past coaching changes. Nobody wanted to replace Shannon because talent was thin and expectations unfair. If anything would scare coaches away, it would be the firing of Coker with his 59-15 record, national championship, and high graduation rates. From the admin's perspective, they are dedicated to winning, a point many people here debate. They just pumped in $40,000,000 to upgrade the facilities and make us competitive recruiting wise. The buyout would not stunt that amount of money. Do you think a school with limited financial resources is going to invest that much while having a coach that isn't winning and fans have lost faith in? If so, then I guess the admin isn't dedicated to winning, which I can tell you is an outright falsehood. Furthermore, the admin doesn't feel we would be starting over. This isn't Shannon taking over for Coker where talent was thin or Golden taking over for Shannon where talent was even thinner. The roster is stacked, almost top to bottom, with an enormous amount of talent. 2015 is satisfactory to most and 2016 is ridiculously good. While early, many in the admin believe the class could be maintained enough with certain delicate changes.

People making the Butch comparisons with banners and records need to stop. The situations aren't even close to similar.

So I'll say it again. Golden is on a neutral, room temperature seat right now. Losing to Louisville wont heat it up anymore than a rough loss would. Getting blown out, again, would be giving it some noticeable warmth. But the admin is cautiously optimistic that this season will be an overwhelming success, as they should be. They expect wins this year and they think that Al Golden will deliver them this year.

Good post, but since when did not getting beat too badly by a nothing program like UL who is breaking in a whole new staff and lost all their best players the standard at UM?

I can assure you that any sort of loss to this UL team at this time will start an avalanche of fan revolt. And, ultimately, the fans will call the shots here just as we did with Coker and Shannon.

This UL game is so huge. Most will think if we can't beat a depleted UL team breaking in an entirely new offense, defense, and special teams that we really will have no hope to win the coastal. Whether they're wrong or right about that will be meaningless because that will be the reality of perception.

The margin of loss being small to a good team would indicate moving in the right direction to the admin. The fans would likely not see it as so and they might still force the admin's hand.

this is great insight and it seem reasonable to me.

just a minor point about golden betraying the president and the AD during the penn state flirt session. this may be true, however, didn't the school betray him by not advising him of the shapiro issue when they hired him? if i'm golden there was little to no loyalty after that "failure to communicate". he might have felt that he owed UM nothing. just saying.

According to people in the admin, they told Golden, once the ink was dry, that there was, "a potential NCAA issue." It obviously turned out to be much larger than that. As far as they are concerned, they didn't betray him because a bond hadn't been established yet and gave him a huge contract by Miami standards. They feel that they put more on the line in the relationship than Golden had thus far. Winning would have tipped it to his favor. His untimely Penn State issues was so unexpected from their perspective that it was almost a Benedict Arnold to them. Fair or not, that's how they viewed it.

They expect wins this year and they think that Al Golden will deliver them this year.

this is great insight and it seem reasonable to me.

just a minor point about golden betraying the president and the AD during the penn state flirt session. this may be true, however, didn't the school betray him by not advising him of the shapiro issue when they hired him? if i'm golden there was little to no loyalty after that "failure to communicate". he might have felt that he owed UM nothing. just saying.

Didn't UM give him a contract extension before the BC game his first season as some sort of good-faith offering based on the whole Shapiro-gate being sprung on him? I seem to recall that and at the time, Golden seemed more than satisfied with that

Exactly. Their good faith wasn't enough to avoid the Penn State issues.
