Bruce Feldman Says a Loss to UL puts Golden on THE HOT SEAT

He is doing everything right, except a consistent product on the field. He really in my eyes just need to show life on the field. Just show some improvent.
The question is how many mopes are wearing a red jersey next week?

Lose to UL, and the wheels might come off right from the beginning. Make no mistake. This is a HUGE game for UM and Golden.

UL is bringing in an entirely new system on offense, defense and special teams, and they lost their best players from last year. UL should not be expected to be clicking on all cylinders the first game of the season with 3 entirely new systems.

On top of that, they have a new QB with no experience. Bad DC with a pretty complex system that takes time to learn. UM recruits from a better talent pool than UL. If Al can't go out there and get this win, then he's going to have an uphill battle to keep things together this year.

Way too many things in his favor for this game (forget the Rustled Bowl because it's meaningless for THIS matchup) for him to lose this game.
This right here.

Lets see.
First game of the season
Road game at night
Vs formidable opponent
With first year QB

Hmmmm nope. His seat will be a comfortable room temperature if we lose that game.
Now if the team ends up tanking and we end up with less than 9 wins then yes his seat will heat up.

Horrible defense again and a meltdown down the stretch will do it. We are underdogs and start on the road at night with a new qb.

This is probably one of the 3 or 4 hardest games on the schedule.

It'll actually only take a total fan revolt like we saw against USF. Shalala was pointed when she clearly stated that the fan reaction at that game played a significant role in Shannon's firing.
Exactly I was at that game and not once did I feel like Randy Shannon was going to survive Sunday afternoon. If the fans revolt against Golden after a poor start the pressure to make a coaching change will improve greatly. Fans are really the ones who decide these things. If the majority of the fan base is calling for the coaches head administration will listen.
THIS

People don't seem to get it. Golden got a built in extra cushion over the NCAA mess. So even if you were to say we were measuring him exactly by Shannon's clock, he's very likely got an extra year built in over Shannon because of the NCAA stuff and the extensions they gave him. He is also a much better communicator and his PR and media relations are MUCH better. He can buy himself an extra year that Shannon could not.

That is all predicated on him not having a total meltdown disaster of a year.

But a loss to UL is not what is going to set him in deep sh*t. Its how the season goes. We are not even ranked to start. Expectations are already low for us. They were last year too, until we got pretty high and then the big let down. If he has a disasterous season, limping into the end, underachieving, he's going to be on the hot seat for sure. If he loses to UL, I don't think its going to do much either way. People can talk about "new staff at UL" all the want. Bobby Petrino is a former NFL HC, and is one of the brightest offensive minds in football. And all this "they lost their QB", LULZ, so DID WE!! So really, our advantages are not all that in this game. Petrino is an offensive genius. And our QB situation is really no better than theirs. Why would people be expecting that we should be putting a beating on UL?

SHOULD we win the game? YES. But is it an automatic shot against Golden with the Admin that he's on the clock. I don't think so. I think he gets the season to show something.

The UL game with tell us ALOT about the direction this program is headed. I completely agree with Feldman.

Formidable my ***. They have anew staff, and a new QB just like us. You have no idea what they will be. They could wax us and go 2-10 like maryland. smh

I actually agree with that, but its a separate point. Whether the UL game ends up creating a downward spiral is a significant question. And yes, in that regard it could be critical. But as far as the "hot seat" issue, I don't think a loss against UL automatically does that. But obviously if the team falters and we go into a downward spiral, then it all sort of comes together anyway. Because he will be in deep sh*t then.

Randy was doing a heck of a lot more wrong than losing ONE game. Al Golden has more commits for the 2016 class than Randy had two months away from signing day. Think about that. Randy was also burning bridges locally, where Golden is building them. There were so many thing Shannon did wrong that Golden isn't. Also, the administration knows the crap storm that has just passed with the NCAA. They are going to give Golden time. Now I want Golden to start winning on a high level as badly as any real Cane fan, but when the man is doing so much right, stocking the team with more talent than it's had in many years, there is no "hot seat" for a loss to UL. No freaking way.
Randy Shannon says hello.

If you follow recruiting then you would know a commit for a class two years down the road means squat. He isn't exactly killing it in 2015 and there is no "cloud." You don't keep a coach for a class two years down the road. Unfortunately, it will happen. Don't forget the PSU scandal Golden pulled, Randy never tried a stunt like that.

Top 11 by 247, 23 commits (and counting), with 6 months left is not killing it? Have you seen the commit list?

As far as Randy, football aide. He was the CEO who hired Clint.

I regret to inform you that Randy is the past and Golden is the present. None of what Randy did matters anymore. 3 and a half recruiting classes means this is Golden's team. Put up or shut up.

Good point. I think the team quit on golden last year at the end and especially during the bowl game. To pick up where we left off and to lose to the opponent that embarassed us just a few months ago, I just don't know if the players will keep buying in. If we get blown out which I don't think will happen then he will lose the team mid game. With all the **** the UL players will be talking, losing to them again could cause an ugly downward spiral for the rest of the season.

All I know is he better win. Save the NCAA bull**** for your momma, this is a man's game, and should be coached by men. If he can't make adjustments and win this game... well you can fill in the rest.

WTCOGTFO, **** WTACCOGTFO. No excuses. Now.

We can't lose to UL and then turn around and win the Coastal. Unless you are REALLY drunk or taking the pot, you should realize this.

The chances of sweeping all 6 Coastal teams, well that would be something that Golden hasn't proven he can come close to accomplishing. Neither is beating Free Shoes.

We need to beat UL, and get some help to hopefull finish 6-2 ACC, and hope that is good enough.

The truth is the seat is hotter than the defenders think, but not as hot as the haters want.

I think the team quit for a number of reasons, but it wasn't just Golden. I think there were other issues going on there. Morris was just a **** poor leader. The kid took no ownership of that offense at all. The only guy that DID, was Duke. I think its quite telling that when Duke went down, is when the wheels just came off for us. He was about the only leader we had on the team. Im hoping that a more mature team, with older guys and more depth, is going to have some more leaders and guys that can step up and carry things when times are tough.
