i mean a huge part of the diff is cam ward too. he changed calls at the line and teams couldnt load up with cam back there. they have no worries w beck. theyll live with him beating them but more often than not, he cant see the field well and **** turn it over more often than not. they need to get more creative. they can still run where they want but they have to make it look different to the defense so they stop loading up.Correct. Been saying the same for a while now. In terms of pure run blocking, the transition from Rivers/Carpenter to the combination of Samson & Rivers with Brock is simply not as effective.
We ran the same plays last year into the same fronts with basically the same backs, and the results were much different. Not real hard to figure out why.
This is why I hope we lean into the pass a little more early in games. I saw something that Miami has given up ZERO pressures against non-blitz defenses the entire season. You should be able to be really efficient if you know they have to rush 5+ to even pressure you. Embrace that, you have a better pass blocking OL than run blocking. So embrace it, trust your 5 up front to win, as they have all year, and you can even get backs into routes because you don't need to keep someone in unless they bring 5+.
Right now, we are 49th in the country in highest rush percentage. Last year we were 112th. 55% this year to 45% last year. I understand our QB isn't as good, but I said all off-season we didn't pay this guy what we did to come hand the ball off every play, and he's not (49th in the country isn't exactly Navy or Army), but it's certainly a lower mix than last year. I'm not sure if that's just Cam vs Beck, or a combination of them thinking the receivers are worse as well, but I think it's time to get closer to a 50/50 split.
