Was a real quick way to find out who don’t know ball tho.
People definitely prefer certain styles of offense. But I think the point remains in all sports that there is more than one way to win if you have the right personnel.
Look at the NBA. The Warriors had everyone trying to play small, fast and shoot lots of 3 pointers. And it worked for them. But no on ther team could mimic what they did.
Then along came Cleveland which had a great regular season playing with 2 bigs. And OK City won it all with a superstar guard who rarely ever takes a 3 pointer.
Playing fast worked for UM a few years ago because our Oline couldn’t sustain blocks. And we hated Lashlee’s running calls, which are similar to Dawson, but a lot less effective because we didn’t have a Cici, Bell, Cooper and friends at the time.
Now we likely play as slow or slower than any team not named Georgia Tech. Watch how late in the play clock we snap the ball. Typically under 10 seconds, even in the 1st quarter. Now we are reducing possessions the way Tech did to us last year. FYI, that game may have 8-10 possessions the entire game; 4-5 for each team so we better make the most of them!
We have a coach who excels at recruiting Oline so he has made that the focal point of the team. And by the time our Dline finishes practicing against our Oline, the games must seem like playing a scout team.
This is a long way of saying that some of the people you refer to were not necessarily wrong depending on the personnel at the time they stated their positions. But they are wrong if they still look at our team the same way with this personnel.
