at a school where they'll recruit against each other no less.
 
It's definitely an underwhelming hire but in the end it's a much better fit there than O'Brien. It won't be a good look for them though if the O'Brien deal fell through due only to money.

I really don't think O'Brien embraces the college game and recruiting. He didn't like recruiting at Penn State, or dealing with the politics of school administration. I doubt that has changed, even with his failures in the NFL. He doesn't strike me as the type of guy who ever think he's wrong.
 
If it’s Pry that tells me they had trouble getting existing HCs to bite , which speaks to the reduced prestige of the VT job.

He’s a very good DC and comes from a strong recruiting staff that pulled from a lot of the same territory as VT, so he might be a good fit. But carries the same high risk that all coordinators with no prior HC record carry, as we’re all too familiar with.

At least we're not the only school that doesn't care about football. Thought VT was better than that but obviously not as they went the cheap route instead of paying. I was almost worried they'd go get a Dan Mullen type who hates recruiting but is an outstanding X's/O's coach that would seriously cause headaches for us in the Coastal.
