Look, Charlie Baker is a ****nut. He is trying to have his cake and eat it too. He is trying to trick the Congress into giving back to the NCAA its financial and transfer control, without having to go the route of a collective bargaining agreement. This is not because "rules were unenforceable", it' is because the NCAA wants to go back to enforcing CERTAIN rules related to compensation and transfers.

As for being a "Miami fan", I made the comments about Texas courts HAVING NOTHING TO DO WITH THIS CASE. This is merely the latest in a long line of forum-shopping/home-cooking wins coming out of Texas.

As for how the rest of the country sees us, I could give a ****. Again, if Miami tampered with Mensah, then please have the NCAA file charges and go after us. We did not "get away with" actually "stealing" Mensah ("stealing" was your word, not mine) by filing a lawsuit in South Florida. Last time I checked, Duke sued Mensah IN NORTH CAROLINA and did not prevail. I'm really not sure why you keep throwing Miami under the bus here.

The NCAA and conference lobbyists can complain about Miami until they turn blue in the face. ****, I'm built for this. Remember when the corrupt Texas cowboys whined and complained about Evil Miami in the 1990 Cotton Bowl, so much so that the NCAA passed a whole SLATE of "Miami rules"? Yeah, why stop now?

But to compare an individual player gambling on his own sport/team to Miami (under Cristobal) paying players legally and taking transfers legally...is just a weird flex.

We are winning because we finally hired the coach we should have hired years ago. Do you think Mario would have failed before the NIL/Portal era? I acknowledge that Mario has adapted to the new era, but he was a helluva recruiter at every prior coaching stop. And a **** good developer of line talent. So, no, I'm not going to attribute all of Miami's "winning" to NIL or the Portal, even though both are elements of our success.

It's very simple, I just want to play by the same set of rules, whether that is NO PAYMENT of players or ACTUAL PAYMENT of players. Whether that is NO PORTAL or YES PORTAL. Just give us the same set of rules, and Mario will compete and (usually) win.

Is it POSSIBLE to have an honest conversation about betting on one's own sport/team without shouting "BUT MIAMI!!!"...because that would be nice.
 
Maybe since gambling on your own team is fine if it makes you sad we can all promise to bets on us losing vs a ****** team, throw the game, and put all the winnings back into nil. Thats a good flywheel. You get an elite team throw one game and use the profits to fund an even better team which gives you bettter odds for the following seasons game you throw!
 
It's amazing, for once everyone agrees that the judge in this case is a ******* moron, and that Sorsby playing makes Texas Tech the villain of the 26-27 season, the team everyone hates with the passion of a thousand suns.
 
C'mon guys we are underestimating how the 2 game suspension is going to affect Tech. How are they possibly going to beat Abeline Christian without him?

I support teams like Texas Tech and Miami who push the limits. Other teams have been doing it for decades, at our expense. It’s not our job to follow rules that can’t be enforced.

When the sport comes together for a real system, we should be part of that. But until then, I hope Miami is doing everything humanly possible to take advantage of the void.

So on one hand I fully agree with you that NCAA is gutless and if anyone has it in them to fight they will likely win and some type of governing body is needed or the sport will slowly implode. I also agree the Cody model over the SEC model when it comes to regulation.

But help me out on how the Mensah and Sorsby things are related aside from the NCAA being gutless to the point it cannot enforce what seems to be the most obvious rule you should have (dont gamble on your own sport).

You made a point to say Miami could steal Mensah on the last day of the portal when he was under contract. Under contract to do what? Play for Duke? Isnt that illegal "pay for play" but instead of miami trying to argue this we just paid the buyout.

So the ncaa has a portal window, it was used appropriately. If the only wild west thing done was getting him to break an illegal contract close to a portal deadline that seems different than Sorsby gambling no? Or what am I missing?

Clear as day it was Sorby’s camp/TTech’s strategy to get ahead of the story to soften it.
