Breaking tendencies

I still want to know why they stopped using the T formation for short yardage that was used for 1 or 2 games. I dont remember that being stopped anytime they ran it.

Time of possession is important but Ole miss doesnt need it alot to ring up 30. We CANNOT focus only on that and leave points off the board.. Its impossible to expect the defense to hold #1 offense to 14 points this game. It can happen but not probable

if there is ever a game that Miami needs 28-plus points in this tournament, it's this one coming up

You know where I stand on this. It was my entire gripe after SMU.

Love it when Dawson does actually set up a creative break in tendency, but I still consider it too infrequent. The Fletcher TD pass was beautiful. Similar to the TD to Bauman against SMU.

Hope he has about 4-5 bullets for this game.

We can dial it up, too, if needed. I know everyone has visions of Beck vs UL. But if this becomes a shootout, you need to forget that and remember he's also won 90% of his games under center. He knows how to lead an up-tempo offense to victory. Dawson noted how he intentionally paced the offense to ensure our defense wasn't on the field too much. He's got the playbook ready if that's what it comes to.

I would have rather had the UGA matchup personally. Feel Ole Miss is less talented overall but more disruptive and dangerous. That said, I think we shut them down. I expect this to be more like USF, UF, NCS, TAMU than SMU. A couple TFLs or an interception changes the entire dynamic. Hetherman will have our boys ready.

Im with you, to me it's that old boxing adage -- styles make fights. And sometimes while one boxer is better than another one, how both fight matters in terms of how another one would deal with them

Ole Miss is that elusive, slick southpaw that can be hard to pin down.

The teams that seemed to do the best job to me were LSU (early in season, they werent cooking yet) and UF (Had them at 20 points end of 3rd qtr before INT and big run)..
This is a different team now
Chambliss has 10 games under his belt
This game is VERY tricky imo
Heatherman has to devise plan to make Chambliss do his work from pocket
If we let him out and he roams around field, that is not good for our back end!

I would have been very
Happy if Georgia would have won
There are unknown plays that will happen w Chambliss!!! I hope they are few and far between

He’s been on a heater. But Keionte Scott is gonna be shot out of a cannon at him multiple times. I wouldn’t be surprised if Scott has 2 sacks Thursday night.

I hope you’re right! I’ve watched every game this kid has played and he gets better and better. He’s gonna be tough to corral consistently imo

Just wanted to add....this mental **** play, capped off the longest drive the OSU defense had allowed all season. Patricia and his team were being demoralized minute by minute, this was beautifully set up and well done by Dawson and executed by the team.
The back-breaking rushing yards esp in the 4th quarter were a thing of beauty. Canes fans from '07-'18 know what I'm talm about. Very envious of those at this game: got to lap up those Buckeye tears.

One of my biggest gripes earlier in the year was being very predictable and not self scouting our tendencies very well.

The play below is the first TD of the day.

Third down and one on the nine yard line. The formation had 8 ol on the field , yes I said 8. 76 with 83 who’s also a glorified interior OL who’s been playing h back / full back. Miami showing strong side to the right , which obviously means we’re coming with something to our strong side off the a or b gap. That’s our tendency in this situation especially earlier in the year.

Seeing that OSU rightfully over loads the right and middle , all 11 guys within 7 yards off the los. Selling out for the run. Even adding another wrinkle Dawson sells qb power to the left , that alone is a big tendency breaker , then the cherry on top leaking MF out of the backfield for an easy walk in touchdown.

Styles bought the bait , allowing his eyes to be manipulated by the formation pre snap to hem the run action post snap. That split second brain freeze set that TD up.

Both our coordinators won this matchup vs OSU’s.

Imagine how challenging it would be for a staff to identify an opponents tendencies and mask their own if they only have 6 days to prepare and are spending half their time at another job in a different state.

We would have stomped a mud hole in UGA for sure

This game much trickier though we have a bigger advantage in the trenches, it’s the intangibles

Let’s be real for a second here. On Miami’s first touchdown they lined up with 7 linemen, two tight ends a running back and a quarterback. They got OSU to bite on a fake quarterback power and then dumped it in the other direction to a wide open Fletcher. My question is: HOW STUPID IS OHIO STATE’S DEFENSE? Why the **** would thy think we were going to run QB power with Beck from like the 4 yard line?

I loved the play call but there was literally one Miami Hurricane on the field that was going to get the ball and OSU just ignored him

This is the best offense we’ve played all year. Zero doubt about it. They’re going to score and make plays. My optimism comes from the fact that this is a mid-level ACC-esque defense and we should be able to control the ball and clock and score points. Let’s see what happens to Chambliss if he’s sitting on the sidelines for 6-7 minutes at a time watching us score TDs. Does he press? This is the biggest game of his life. But admittedly he played incredibly well against UGA. He’s really good. The Marcel Reed comp is poor. He’s a much, much better thrower.

Execution in general has also just gotten better and better since SMU. Someone (maybe Pickell) said something like after the SMU game, Beck would have caught up to the reps he would have gotten in camp. I think you can see and feel it, personally.

You can break tendencies easier when you’re executing your base offense efficiently.

The Rail is a nice touch and is essentially a variation of the Fast to Flat you see all over.

I maintain this is essentially a play action pass. The intention of the QB power step forward is to bait the LB to step forward (just like play action) and Styles bit hard.

Saved it for the perfect time and it worked even better after running out of the formation previously.

as you know I love to play the "where that came from" game .... this is a version of a run action pop pass of off of a Freeze Option package ... welcome to 1986 Syracuse and at least a half dozen east coast D-3 teams in the early 80's
