Breaking tendencies

Im with you, to me it's that old boxing adage -- styles make fights. And sometimes while one boxer is better than another one, how both fight matters in terms of how another one would deal with them

Ole Miss is that elusive, slick southpaw that can be hard to pin down.

so, we are clubber lang and they are rocky balboa?

I hope you’re right! I’ve watched every game this kid has played and he gets better and better. He’s gonna be tough to corral consistently imo

you're right.

this is the most dangerous and explosive and dynamic offense we have faced (or will face) this season. it's a scary position to be in, and one that does not inspire a lot of confidence, as they have scored on everyone they played, and mostly with ease.

Let’s be real for a second here. On Miami’s first touchdown they lined up with 7 linemen, two tight ends a running back and a quarterback. They got OSU to bite on a fake quarterback power and then dumped it in the other direction to a wide open Fletcher. My question is: HOW STUPID IS OHIO STATE’S DEFENSE? Why the **** would thy think we were going to run QB power with Beck from like the 4 yard line?

I loved the play call but there was literally one Miami Hurricane on the field that was going to get the ball and OSU just ignored him
I agree but also that’s kind of the point

We haven’t done that the entire season correct?

amazing how one slight variation causes a millisecond of pause by the defense and it works to perfection

Flip side if they dont bite and Fletcher gets stuffed for a two yard loss on the catch Dawson is back to being a ****** instead of a genius

This is also you, correct? Frankly, Im exhausted by this shtick of yours over the past month but keep doing it cause I'm superstitious.

BELIEF is a powerful tool.
Yep. Those are both big.

I'm not confident in either.

this thread is not going to age well.

We’re screwed.

OSU is a better team than UM. Period.

The facts are what they are.

People on here act like stating the obvious is a third degree felony. Doesn't mean anyone is rooting against the 'Canes, and hope they lose. It just means they have eyes and brains.

Cooper moving so smooth and pulling around to the left to block along with the OL/FB moving to block really sold it too. And when Beck put his head down/ leaned in the LBs and DB on that side were probably like what the heck is going on here.

Ole Miss has scored 34 vs OU, 43 vs UGA, and 39 vs UGA in the playoffs - They're gonna put up points, we need to make sure we limit their possessions, and can score enough to keep up.
Alabama hung 34 on OU in their own building. The same Bama that couldn’t do a ******* thing against Indiana. I think it’s more likely we blow Ole Miss out than any scenario in which we lose and the most likely scenario is we win 41 to 27 or something like that. I’d be watching the line prior to kick off. It jumped 2 pts prior to the Cotton Bowl. Line moves north prior to kick off and Ole amiss gonna get that fresh beat down.

Absolutely. Dawson also gets a lot of **** for his screen game and ironically it was CJs screen that was the dagger. When it’s executed well and we don’t overly rely on it, works pretty nicely

Beck's movement didn't make that play, the line's movement did. The backers, in that quarter of a second at the snap, are reading the linemen. I will also GUARANTEE they were expecting run, because that's all they'd seen on tape for the whole **** season. So, they were misaligned in the first place, there was no DB even on that side of the field, and then when you step forward half a step when you see the puller, you're dead to the outside.

Off the top of my head I can count 3 times when we did this to them in slightly differently circumstances

The screen to Brown was one. This one. Also there was a 3rd and short we hit Bauman I think? From a 4 wide look

I’m really annoyed my tv didn’t record this game like it normally does

A defense as good as Taint's is that good because they have talent and discipline. That play call used all the right read keys to get the defense flowing away from Fletcher.

It was a great call much more than it was bad/clueless defense.

Ole Miss is probably spending all week trying to figure out how to stop our run (as they should be)...

I hope we come out throwing the ball and tempo to shatter their whole game plan.

If we want to lean on our defense and run game and slow the game down we have to do it with a lead.

I think it was Dawson's "F- You Canes fans"!!!! Cuz I even said out loud, "oh look, power line to the right, guess where we're going!".. and Dawson said, kiss my a$$$.....

Nah **** that. We haven’t been a finesse team all year long. Now’s the time to embrace our identity and ram it down their throats. They wanna sell out and stop the run? Fine. Then we’ll hit you with routes like we did to FSPoo. Get ahead of the sticks and convert on 3rd down. Keep their offense off the field and we win.

My biggest beef with Dawson all year was lack of counter-punch in the playcalling. This OL gives the QB enough time to call anything, so if Dawson is just now getting into his bag and feeling confident enough to set teams up....we might just have something cookin

well what is crazy I think earlier in the year we legit just couldnt be stopped trying to get short yardage by just running up the center's ***. Then when we started to get stopped it was like they didnt want to believe it and KEPT trying it, then they finally started to sprinkle in wrinkles. Well now I do think our OL and RBs are good enough to bully you on short yardage IF you do not sell out. So now by doing this it is very risky to sell out, almost have to hesitate and if you do that you are likewise f'd assuming it is a run.

You're misremembering a little bit. I said this almost weekly in my stat roll thread. LAST YEAR, we were unstoppable. I don't have the numbers anymore but I think it was over 95% that we converted with runs on 3rd or 4th and 1. And I think the staff came into the year thinking the same exact thing would happen. But we got stopped right off the bat in the Notre Dame game.

First drive of the season, Lyle gets 0 yards on 3rd and 2 and we punt.
In the 2nd half, we had a 3rd and 1 with a chance to really take the game by the throat, Marty Brown doesn't convert. You can say it's because he slipped, but whatever. We lined up in heavy on 3rd and 1, as always, and didn't convert.
Also after the Bain pick, we ran the ball on 2nd and 4, then on 3rd and 3. Those 2 runs netted a combined 2 yards. Field goal.

That never really happened in 2024, ever. And I think the staff was slow to adjust to the fact that we can't just line up and get 1-2 yards whenever we feel like it. Hence why I was going ballistic all the way through the middle of the season when we ran the ball on 29 consecutive short yardage plays.

Would ya look at what happens when we run the same action, but throw it?? Mindblown.

Tempo is going to be a factor from Ole Miss. Coaches know Bain and Mesidor will wear out if they don't sub often. I'd love to see Miami go tempo as well, to test Ole Miss' DL depth. They have to plan to take away the run and force Beck to make plays, so let him. I'd rather they go fast early in the game and then lean on the running game later, when the DL is tired.

One of my biggest gripes earlier in the year was being very predictable and not self scouting our tendencies very well.

The play below is the first TD of the day.

Third down and one on the nine yard line. The formation had 8 ol on the field , yes I said 8. 76 with 83 who’s also a glorified interior OL who’s been playing h back / full back. Miami showing strong side to the right , which obviously means we’re coming with something to our strong side off the a or b gap. That’s our tendency in this situation especially earlier in the year.

Seeing that OSU rightfully over loads the right and middle , all 11 guys within 7 yards off the los. Selling out for the run. Even adding another wrinkle Dawson sells qb power to the left , that alone is a big tendency breaker , then the cherry on top leaking MF out of the backfield for an easy walk in touchdown.

Styles bought the bait , allowing his eyes to be manipulated by the formation pre snap to hem the run action post snap. That split second brain freeze set that TD up.

Both our coordinators won this matchup vs OSU’s.

Well i said it in my post mortem of the 2 losses. This is the first season i could say we didnt lose a game because of talent deficiency in one personnel group or the other. It was all coaching for me. Mainly stubbornness. Im pleased with the adjustments they made ever since then and to outscheme so called NFL gurus in this game. Kudos.

The teams that seemed to do the best job to me were LSU (early in season, they werent cooking yet) and UF (Had them at 20 points end of 3rd qtr before INT and big run)..
That UF Ole Miss game was pretty good. Recall watching the end of this game during the season, but missed most of it, but after watching the full game, it was back and forth, punch for punch. Not bad.
