I'm sure Alonzo understands what the job entails and would do well if he had personal interest, along with the opportunity and support from the []__[]. Dude is an absolute winner who has excelled at every level and continues to shine a bright light on our []__[]. With someone like him leading the athletic department our programs would have no choice but to elevate their performance. He would inspire support from the fanbase, continue the momentum started by coach Richt, and put the right talent in place to restore our championship culture.

So what happens when Highsmith gets this job and he hires Mario? Are people going to be ok with that?

yes but we also have a BOT that cares more abotu their interests than the interests of the school and a puppet AD bc that BOT wont let someone else make decisions. id go after danny white and have him go ari on the BOT. then id let him fire everybody in the football dept and have him start it from the ground up

If Alonzo gets the job, I am sure he will properly exam and decide who the next coach will be unlike the last few morons that hired assistants from a failed staff.

He also discussed how there seems to be disagreement within the BOT on the direction of the program, with two members pushing hard to get Cristobal, and fairly upset that a legitimate search wasn’t performed by Blake.

He also detailed Blake James’ ascension into the AD role. He certainly doesn’t seem qualified now, or when he was initially hired.

At the end of the day, what I take is that the only hope for real change is for Manny to continue crapping the bed and we lose out. That’s my opinion

I think it's interesting that this sounds almost exactly like what a CIS poster would have said. If I thought any of you morons could keep your yaps shut for 15 minutes, I'd suspect somebody here made that call.

I'm all for Alonzo, but what makes you say this? Why are you sure he'll do those things? This sounds a lot like when people were sure about what Manny would do. Or what Richt would do. Or al...

Alonzo has spent 18+ years with a winning organization In the packers and learned under Ron Wolfe. I am sure he knows what it takes to construct a winning football team.
 
This is a unique thread in that both sides have great points.

On the one hand, Zo has been working as a professional sports executive for almost 20 years, has a plethora of experience that would be a huge asset for our football team, and would command respect; he’d have the autonomy by the board to hire who he felt was good. Remember, this football Program is a cesspool in literally every aspect and we need a full organizational reworking.

On the other hand, it still reeks of “it’s gotta be a Miami guy bro” and the classic assumption that having A connection to Miami automatically makes someone great. And it could easily continue in the long line of BOT hires someone they know so they can have influence through him. A guy like Zo also doesn’t have an athletic department experience in terms of hiring underlings, and I fear that he’d be pushed to keep many of the same imbeciles that have roamed the Hecht for way too long.

Of course half the people arguing against Highsmith are doing so bc they love them some Blake and Manny.

But I’m going to say I think we need someone from an elite overall athletics program who has zero ties to this school or it’s BOT.

Great write up, my only question is your belief the Alonzo has some connection with the BOT. I don’t see this as a favor like the Manny hire.

You obviously know nothing about Alonzo Highsmith. He was more qualified than Flake 10 years ago.
 
The bot doesn’t care about athletics. They probably only look at 2 things, will it hurt the school’s reputation and does it make/lose money

To think they care about what some fans want is ridiculous.

Losing games doesn’t hurt the reputation of the school. Cheating, stealing, committing crimes, then bot will take a 2nd look. Otherwise we are stuck with manny for a couple more years

Good post.

If Highsmith is in line for an NFL GM gig, it’s hard for me to see him coming here unless he is just determined to save the U.

I don’t know much about how athletic departments are run but setting up the structure so Alonzo can focus on football and allow others to perform other duties seems like a good compromise.

Creating a Director of Football Operations strikes me as a good idea, even if it isn’t necessarily Highsmith. Just a guy with the high level football knowledge from an organizational standpoint.

People must think that Alonzo has been selling insurance or used cars since finishing his playing days. Alonzo accomplishes more sitting on the toilet than Flake James has as AD.

You’re wrong on this one.

Comparing AD to HBC is beyond laughable.

AD priorities:
1) Fundraising
2) Coaching Talent Identification and Procurement
3) Organizational Oversight

An AD has access to an incredibly robust support structure that substantially increases the likelihood of success for a bright and talented - but inexperienced - candidate as compared to the head football coach position.

In fact, AD is the very definition of a position where aptitude trumps experience. And head football coach is on the literal opposite extreme of that spectrum.
