Blake Baker.

Baker city be the DC. Can you imagine the cultural issues having a DB coach who is not only better than you but more of an alpha male. Would destroy the culture.

Same type of culture that was built where bands wanted to overthrow baker, but worse

After the next announcement (I don't know anything), we should have a clearer understanding of what the staff looks like in terms of titles and positions. Since Trob was announced as DB coach, that opens up 1 on field position for which there are a number of ways to go about it. You can have a DC with no position assigned to him, you can have a ST only coach, an assistant DB coach (DVD), etc. I hope that whatever scenario happens, it doesn't involve Baker.

I’m hoping we see Telly get that ST spot. He would do much better with these returners. And, he would be able to fully recruit as an on field coach. Just a clear upgrade over Patke.

This guy is a musical chair back to back to back offseason champ.. Hired by saying will fix offense to go with defense, clears house, brings in his guys.. They suck, says oh my bad, fires them and brings in new staff they perform better but now his defense breaks, looks like he has cleaned house again.. Dam near whole new staff in 2 years, we might need to look at next time getting a coach who isnt learning on the job..
I'm not a fan of Manny (I think he's too soft), but I can be patient as long as he is learning, improving, and willing to make the necessary changes. I'm not saying he becomes coach K at Duke basketball, but coach K got the job having only coached at Army. Look at Dabo. He was just a postion coach with no experience as a HC and Clemson took a chance.

I don't think Diaz is the guy, but I'm willing to give him a chance even though I criticize him regularly. He may be learning and the job could be over his head, but he does understand Miami and knows he has a short shelf life if he doesn't produce. He's shown the willingness to make changes, so I give him credit for that.

This isn’t about savings. It’s about getting rid of dead weight and replacing it with huge upgrades.

There’s no reason to have Patsy on this staff. He doesn’t recruit, and that’s what we need position coaches to do first and foremost. It’s the same reason Rump has to go.
Yes, recruiting is important but we can’t have a staff filled predominantly with recruiters. Position coaches need to develop talent as well. I think you will agree that Banda recruited well but his safeties underwhelmed.

As excited as they are that T-rob is coming. You think the kids care about baker? Patke actually had kids defend him on social media. They don’t care about baker
Great point. Hopefully, Diaz has another Lashlee type hire in him for Defense because Baker was clearly another Enos type.

Agree... the one thing Manny is doing that his predecessors did not do is make changes on staff.

If he ultimately fails it won't be because of that.

Of course this all hinges on upgrading the DC position

Fvck saving money by retaining Patke or any of those failures. Spend and build a better staff.
I know people hate the entire staff but patkes group was better than the rest of the defense outside of line play really. Friersin was good and obviously punter and kicker were elite tho idk how much patke did there but that’s still his group.

Blocking on returns sucked, we gave up a TD return, and we couldn’t find a guy who could field a punt too.

Patke’s impact on STs was “great kick, Jose!” and “way to go, Lou!”. What was his impact on the kicking game when Baxa and Fecal were shanking their way through the ACC?

As for his genius work with Strikers, I haven’t seen it. Gil is a good player, but he came here with huge expectations and accolades. He’s pretty much been what he was supposed to be.

And, most importantly, he’s as bad as Rump on the recruiting trail.

Everyone talks about ST improvements but most of that is on the backs of lou and Jose's talent. Tell me our net KO return and how many flags we had. Tell me how many muffed Punts we had.

Sure, patke may be able to coach LBs but his lack of recruiting ability and his ****** ST coaching is a liability

I was right. I corrected the guy who said he was fired. He wasn’t fired. I was also right that he was co-DC with Mike Poops before. And I was right that he left OU because he wanted to run the D at Clemson by himself.

Why are you arguing with me? I was right about everything I said as usual. If you want to start getting into Bob Poops’s intent from reading the words of some dopey blogger from ten years ago then go ahead. You’ll conjure up that goofy **** on your own.

I'm not going to read through all the previous posts but I think the poster who mentioned Venables being fired was doing so to defend the idea of Steele being hired as some posters are saying they wouldn't take Steele because he got canned at Clemson. That posters premise (I think) was that was that even good coordinators sometimes get fired, which is something I agree with. You corrected him that Venables wasn't fired, which is factual. I never said you were wrong.

However, it is also true that Venables was effectively demoted. You don't have to be a mind reader to know that bringing in brother Stoops to be Co-DC after 6 years of flying solo was HC Stoops demoting Venables. I posted that goofy article as I assumed someone might defend the move as not being a demotion (I interpreted your bringing up they had been co-DCs before as your belief that the move wasn't) and thought the views of an independent third party would help establish that it was. It's beside the point though. Can we agree that just because a coordinator was demoted or fired in the past, it does not automatically mean that coordinator is forever trash?
