Blake Baker.

It’s true, the Stadium guys are a legit source, they usually have the scoop before anyone else does.

If they’re saying Bake & Pat are out, they’re out.

Venables didn't get fired at OU. Pretty sure Bob Poops brought his dopey brother back to be co-DC after he got fired, and Venables took *****'s offer to run the whole show.

When the HC brings in his brother and names him co-DC, that's basically telling the DC that he should seek greener pastures. There might be circumstances where a coordinator doesn't have an issue (like when he's about to retire) but Venables is not a laid back guy. Stoops knew the move would run him off. He didn't have to fire Venables and possibly pay the buyout as he knew the co-DC thing would absolutely infuriate him.

Most DCs hire their own position coaches. Wouldn't that be awkward if we hired a position coach BEFORE a new DC?

If true, give the guy credit for trying to get it right. Also shows he at least has no problem cutting ties. Me likey.
I couldn’t fathom how he could justify keeping him without losing a ton of support within the BOT and fan base.

Now he needs to go as big as he can with DC and truly stick with the CEO gig...

They were co-coordinators before at OU.

Yeah 99-03, then Venables was solo from 04-2011. You think he was happy to share playcalling responsibilities again? Don't take my word for it. Heres what the local rag said at the time.

"Bob and Mike Stoops were adamant in saying Venables, who arrived with the staff in 1999, would still remain a part of the play-calling plan. But it was difficult to consider Mike Stoops’ return anything but a demotion for Venables, who had run the defense since Mike Stoops left for Arizona in 2004."

The intent was to demote Venables. Stoops didn't need to fire him because Venables would either have to suck it up or leave.
