Bethune thoughts after rewatch

Love Beck but do realize he has been under very little pressure due to our great OL. Only 4 hurries vs ND and on many plays yesterday he had all day to throw.
Not a criticism just something to factor in while judging his performance so far.
Cam had a similar situation….

You trying to make it a negative that we have a great OLine?

some thoughts so far.

Beck looks extremetly calm and comfortable. Makes the right throws.

Fletcher was coming off an injury last year and his pops died midseason. people dont know how much of a locker room leader he is. he is a A+ person in the lock room and tough.

CJ Daniels looks healthy and better than I thought. The fact he has barely dropped a college pass says alot because his hands are unreal.
Toney is the best WR we have recruited since AR. this kid is just different. Ray Ray looks quicker, maybe they find ways to get him the ball.

Schott is a future 1st rounder imo

Lightfoot is almost like a hybrid LB. VERY fast for his position.

Bryce is the fastest safety we have had in a while. watch how fast he got to that INT. Scott is playing very well.
Thomas is all over the field. Pruitt is where he belongs at safety. Both Pruitt and Bryce has natural instincts for the ball.
You got Schott going in the first round after one game vs Bethune Cookman?

RB
I'll never understand why some are so negative on Mark Fletcher. No, he's not going to run like Edgerrin James

DMoney - you need to trademark the "I don't understand why (insert player) gets hated on just because he's not as good as (insert greatest player of all-time)" move :)

Is Fletcher Edge/Gore/Mcgahee? No
Is Fletcher Duke Johnson/Lamar Miller? No
Is Fletcher Homer/Dallas/Martinez? No

That's why Fletcher gets hated on. He's our best RB this year, but historically he's a Tier 4 Miami starting RB.

NOW...would you call Fletcher a really good/very good RB on his own? No.
BUT...when paired with this OL and passing game - is he good/plenty good/good enough? Definitely.

You can root for him and know he can get the job done while being realistic about his talent level.

Much to be excited about, but a few things still TBD for me, mainly DB play (still haven’t been tested). Really like Keionte Scott, he’s a difference maker for us at Nickel. Love seeing Samson and Lightfoot progress too.
Same bro, want to see a team really try them vertically and not a fan of some of Heatherman’s fronts. 0 is a prototype nick, love what I’m seeing from him.

I still have ptsd from last season’s defense. Looked good through the first few games even though we saw glimpses of the problems to come.

Hot take: I am not sold on the secondary yet. Still seeing too many mistakes, especially when a QB is buying time with his legs. The DBs continue to lose track of pass catchers in key situations. Led to a ND TD. Also big time communication breakdown in ND resulted in a TE being wide open. I know - “it’s just 2 mistakes.” The problem is those two mistakes almost cost Miami the game.

The biggest difference I see this year is a more dominant front 4. We had zero pass rush last year. This year we have a terrific pash rush. I think USF will tell a lot about whether the secondary is actually better or if it appears better simply because QBs are running for their lives.

Happened right in front of where I sit. Looked like the DB made a great play and not really a drop by Moore.
Yeah maybe the DB hand/arm covered up the vision at the last second? Dunno. DB didn’t touch the ball it hit Moore right in the shoulder pad (pretty sure). Shame though because it was well executed all the way around until the very end

Shame Josh Moore dropped that pass. Probably the best throw Emory has ever made
He made a freshman mistake of just waiting for the ball. Daniels on the other hand boxed out the defender and went up for the ball slightly enough to win the play. I’m sure Daniels and Beard will teach that lesson to Moore.
