You had to be at the stadium to appreciate the Barrow/Vanover hit. It was just so back and forth and the stadium needed a shot of adrenaline and boy did Barrow give it to us!... (especially as hot as it was. Thats when the best games on college football were played at 12pm. There were no 8pm primetime games on Saturdays. It was high noon, baby!)...

Barrow on Vanover...legendary. Easily #1.

Wilkfork on Washington because it was FSU and the sheer difference in player size. The hit itself wasn't as violent as others, but Vince may have been 150lbs heavier than Washington. Was too funny.

This is the hit I would probably be voting for. Big game, big hit, big turnover. Love it.

If you care about the moment/context, my all-time favorite UM hit might be the hit put on the Texas return man on the opening kickoff of the 1991 Cotton Bowl. Dude got laid out and left the field. Then we went on to completely and utterly destroy Texas for another 59:45. Over 200 yards in penalties. Zero fvcks given. Just wild.

Also, the very underrated combo of Sharpton+Phillips in our last win against Clem$on is a personal favorite (but would be hyper-flagged today):

I understand where you are coming from, but I hate seeing this b/c it clearly knocked him out. I am not saying the hit was dirty or anything, but rather see the other player lose their wind or just hurting w/o actually being injured/knocked out.

I can't remember who we were playing (GT? Colorado?), but it was at the Orange Bowl sometime after 2003. One of our players intercepted a pass and started returning it to the end zone, the QB gave chase and one of our other defensive players just absolutely destroyed him on a block. Under the rules at the time, it was a legal block, but the refs flew a flag anyway (likely b/c of how brutal it looked and that it was their QB).

That's a fair and respectable position. I just remember watching that play and thinking to myself, "my God, the timing was so perfect it's almost like they were planning a combo tackle in the huddle."

Thinking back, a lot of the hits on this thread, the player on the receiving end left the game. Honestly, several of the hits on this thread would likely result in a penalty and ejection from the game under the current rules. I mean, there's definitely some "launching" in some of these hits....

But still... the caveman part of my brain momentarily takes control when the person delivering the hit is wearing the colors of this U. I am trying to be better, though.

I wish there was one of Danny Kanell since he has ran his mouth so much about our NIL deals. The forklifting of another loudmouth Joel Klatt kind of makes up for it.:)

Excellent thread.

Honorable mention:
Nesta plants Travis

That one was great because it was a blowout, lead directly to an INT, and because of the highlight of Jordan Travis crawling in pain afterwards. Should be a permanent GIF we use to clown the Noles.

How quickly they forget. Maybe we should remind them in Nov.
