While we need Butch Davis coaching capabilities he hasn't been involved in the new age of recruiting whereas Cristobal has and is well received in miami in that aspect. We all know Butch can recruit but he has been out the game for a long time and would need help IMO. Hire Ed Oregeron as the dcoordinator as well

You hire Butch for the recruiting and program building not the coaching.
You don't hire dead weight like Mario just to pull some kids. You hire the best staff possible.
You don't hire Ed Orgeron as a DC as he has not shown a single shred of evidence that he would be good at that position.

He won a lot of games when he was the interim head coach at USC when kiffin was fired and had their defense playing great. Is known as one of the best recruiters/coaches in the nation. He has coached some of Miami's best LINEMAN EVER.... We won't have to worry about missing out on elite defensive lineman and dtackles in which we have the past 5 years.... You are crazy if you wouldn't want him as defensive coordinator

This is one of the best ways to tell whether someone is a new Miami fan/new college football fan. They really believe that certain coaches possess some magical ability to recruit, ignoring the fact that the best "recruiters" also are winning the most football games.
Because you know, I'm sure dudes like Urban Meyer, Saban, etc. recruit well because they have some super secret, awesome personality traits, rather than them knowing how to win big football games.

Would like to have Mario on the staff, but no way in **** as HC and it's still too early to name him HCIW. No need to do that until we have to cross that bridge. Butch would give us 5-7 good years, then let him decide who on the staff deserves to be and would make the best HC. If Mario, then ok.

Brock thread. But I'll play along anyway. Why on earth would you bring back Butch Davis only to turn the program back over to the equivalent of Al Golden in 5 years or so when Butch decides to retire? Mario has done nothing to warrant this "head coach in waiting" label that some want to bestow upon him. 27-47 as a Head Coach yet people want to crown him because he's had some success recruiting for arguably the best HC in the game and a program that has won 3 NC's in 4 years.

HOw the **** is he dead weight? Saban carries dead weight? You don't like the guy fine, but to call him dead weight is dumb.
so you think he should have made FIU into what exactly? You wanted him to go 60-14? Its FIU. He had two very good seasons.......the only ones they've ever had. He may not be ready for the UM job, but to be on the staff, he most certainly is.

Butch has great eye for coaches too. Just hire the boy and let him go. Last time here, he manage to have 3 future NFL HCs on his staff. Like it or not the HC has to pick the staff. JJ got stuck with some leftovers his first year and it was a disaster. Butch is the big dog, let him hunt.
