Benedict Cristobal is gone

So what's the deal? Given what we think we know (that he is either legitimately interested in the job or using it as leverage for a salary increase just weeks after he came onboard), do we even want him to stay at this point?

As for the pay increase - no doubt he'll get a big one at bama, but I will wager that after a couple years at UM, that money will be there for him (if he's as good as he thinks he is). This short term approach is short sighted if this is a money issue. the money will eventually be there for him

It's not like he'd be at Bama any longer than he'd be at UM, or vice versa. The idea is to get the most money at the best position in a short amount of time before going on as an HC somewhere. Whatever he thinks will accomplish that goal is what he'll choose.

there are new NCAA rules wrt coaching staff and the number of recruiters you can have, etc. i dont know all the details but I bet that this interview has to do with that.

Saban is creating a ******* recruiting TEAM at Bama that only recruits. he probably wants as much SFL connection as possible. Cristobal will make our life that much more difficult if he's recruiting for ******* bama down here

Bama gig is also more high profile.

That's what hurts us: (1) money; (2) Bama is more high profile. And so if his desire is to get back to head coaching, Bama makes sense for him.

/That being said, this sucks for us.

I get the profession - upward mobility to the max. I get that. However, one month into his current gig at his alma matter when he'll be at bama for what - a few years? You don't think that he can get that money at a top program if he stays at UM?

I don't subscribe to the bama being high profile in terms of job prospects. Again, look at Tim McDonald - he was WR coach for a minute and now he's a OC at a BCS school. Same goes for Fisch except in the NFL. I think UM is plenty good as a spring board for Mario.

Heck yes I want him to stay. I think he's a great addition to the staff. But everyone should have realized by now that he never intended to be at the U for the long haul; his goal is to be an HC again as quickly as possible, and to make $$....and he's got to do whatever puts him in the best position to attain those goals.

So no word on wether he played us yet/took the job?

BTW, why did he get fired at FIU? I never heard the story

AU: But wouldn't you agree that there's more interest for Bama's staff than Miami's? I mean, Kirby Smart has been linked to several head coach job openings. The former oc (McElwain) parlayed gig into head coach at CSU. Saban is a hot commodity and being connected to him or part of his coaching tree seems to add some luster to some of these guys prospects (or at least the way that other programs view them).

Nothing Ive read says hes going to take it, only that he was offered.... one of the biggest reasons he took the Miami job was so his family didnt have to uproot and leave and that I did read in an article when he was hired here....

I'm sure he can. But look at it this way:

Let's say that his final destination--an HC gig in a power conference--is the same whether he's at UM or Bama. And let's say it takes him the same amount of time to reach that destination, probably 2 years.

Now, let's assume that the rumors are true that he'd make 500k/yr at UM. And we know that he feels money is an issue. So let's just guesstimate and say that Bama would pay him 650-700k/yr.

Over 2 years, he'd make 300-400k more at Bama than he would at UM. That's almost an extra year's salary at UM.
