Before Richt was hired

I used to ridicule him when he was at UbaGA for all the same reasons I hate him here. And I used to clown UM fans who wanted him here when we was at UbaGA.

Once he got here, I tried to search for some positives and tried to stay positive as long as possible because I knew we were stuck with him. But I always knew he was a 9 win guy who would get gang-banged a couple times a year.

This motherfcker lost to UF with Treon Harris at QB and McEltooth as HC. Let that sink in.

Anyone who actually has talent as a coach and knows it is making a bad decision not considering Miami. I think we just Made bad hires being cheap or valuing things other than winning. We need an AD with football accidents badly.

Richt was an underachiever at Georgia and now he is an underachiever here at Miami. He is who he is. The problem is he is underachieving in a massive scale. No way we can lose to Puke with the talent that we have, even with a ****** coach. Richt has managed to do the impossible.

How many coaches on everyone’s list were available? Who would take the Miami job, at that time?

I didn’t love any of the options being bandied about by the purported insiders. Rick, even with all his flaws, almost seemed like the curable STD to all the other AIDS options being discussed.

Unfortunately, our leaders seem to be stuck in the same time warp our fans are and can’t seem to ever get past the former players or former coaches as options.

We need to completely break free next time around, but I fully expect to hear the same clamoring for the same tired, conservative options we hear every time.

After the Golden firing, Miami had hired a National search team to gauge interest, etc.
Butch was also in play.
CMR gets fired, everything stops.
Administration crawls after Richt like an old Lover.
So here we are wringing our hands, ****ed off.
Lyfe at the U..

I thought he would stabilize the program and bring us into a more modern era of college football in terms of facilities and structure. I hoped getting fired and coming back down would energize him.

However, I live in Atlanta and married a Georgia alum, so I was very familiar with his under-achieving. My favorite party conversation was drunkenly asking Georgia fans why they tolerated Richt.

The reality is, we have a cuckold of an AD with no imagination who relies on search firms to tell him who to hire. I’m not sure there was a great hire that year. However, what I did realize is that the Miami or Florida ties for recruiting are over rated and over stated. Winning is the best recruiter. Urban Meyer had no Florida ties before coaching UF and he recruited just fine. Same with Jimmy Johnson back in the day.

Honestly, I thought he would do well at the "U" and it is in fact who I wanted. 3 years later I see it was a mistake. In my own defense, I thought my first wife was the deal but after making my life a living **** from the night I said I DO through the 16 years that followed I realized she was a bad decision too.

Boy, I got it right this time. She's a great woman and sessy too! Hopefully, our next HC is the deal.
LOL... it took you twice, me three was the charm. And to draw a parallel between coaches and wives, the buyouts are about similar. Ouch! But you got to do what you got to do.

I still believe in Rocht if he gives up play calling. The man can recruit and be a CEO but the problem is he doesn’t want to do that. He wants to be an idiot call the same bad plays game after game. I truly believe if he hired a young innovative OC the Canes would be in the national championship discussion every year. Call me dumb but I feel this teams talent is up there. Minus a Stud Oline and QB (Jarren is my guy ) Jarren can get it done the kid has all the tools and mindset to do it just needs the help from his HC to figure his **** out

I recall that many on this site hoped for Hue Jackson before he took the Brown's job. Well, he struck out there, his second flameout as HC in the NFL. He likely won't get another HC job in the NFL. Could UM offer him enough $$$ to be a college HC? Is he a possibility?

My top three were Tom Herman, Butch Davis, and Dan Mullen. I thought those three were reasonably attainable. Who knows if any of those guys would have been better for us. I didn’t like the Richt hire because I thought a great coach would have won a NC at Georgia. They have the resources. Somewhere in the CIS archives those thoughts died. Once he was hired, I supported him for obvious reasons. I always thought we could have done better though even in our 15 game win streak.

You could probably get Hue on the cheap but is that what we want? Didn’t he meddle in the middle of his OC or try calling plays himself? I’m torn between going after the retread in Butch Davis - you know he’s loyal and will do whatever it takes to move the needle at the U back to national prominence. Or go after a young, upcoming HC who could inject a ton of youthful enthusiasm into the program. But knowing that more than likely this young HC has NFL aspirations. I honestly don’t know which is the better route to go. But we need to make that decision and go after it, balls to the walls. And it starts with putting Richt’s head into the guilliotine.

Wanted Butch. Period. He actually WANTED to be here and work to straighten out the program. Richt just wanted a part time gig before he retired. I don’t think he’s putting any effort into really improving the program. Again, the best comparison I can make is the situation with Jim Morris and the baseball team over the past 8 to 10 years.
Butch was the right guy and he said he would take only 2 million per year so Miami could pay top assistants .

You don’t hire someone who was demoted from calling plays then outright fired from the job then give him 4million a year and promise to let him do what he just got demoted and Fired for...

Well most all Places wouldn’t but this is Miami where they hire coaches that will bury the program deeper into the depths of mediocrity
Conch has it, few more years of Mork, then maybe one more lame hire, and they'll be able to just shut down the program and know one will even notice, I'm beginning to think their all Dems, that's usually the way they run things

Not going to lie I did, around the coaching search I think I had Him in my top 3 I believe

I wanted him here and was ecstatic when he got hired. Figured 10 wins a year for a few years was way better than the schit show we had under the previous 3 HCs. Also thought there was a chance he could do better here than at UGA given the relatively weaker ACC. Boy was I wrong!

I wanted Butch...and most people don't realize that it was about to happen. A done deal. Butch was working at ESPN and as a matter of fact did not do the shows that week and was here in Miami doing the negotiations with UM. Then UGAg makes an unheard-of press conference and declares that richt will not be the coach next season but will Coach the bowl game.
UM admins fell over each other grabbing the phones to get CMR here.
Butch was left standing there.
