Beckham Stadium Design Released

It looks like they're trying to fit a square peg into a round hole.

There isn't enough room in that area to be able to sustain the stadium, the port, and the traffic that comes with it.

I just don't see it happening, at least not in that spot.

I just want it to be over. Although I too think this is going to be our best and only shot at a new venue, I can also see a worst case scenario emerge. One that'd involve Beckham getting this site and willing to make it 40000+ in capacity but us not being able to commit because Stephen Ross won't void that lease and this remaining unsettled for months longer. Then the debate here about the idea in general just continues over and over and over...

Theres things that would be cool about it. The downtown port vibe would give us a unique location that we could definitely play up, assuming of course that the whole thing isn't a massive disaster. Tailgating seems out the window, but hopefully the police are instructed to be "accommodating" and I could see a bit of a walk being a fun thing, its a nice scene down there. Sun Life is a watered down, far out, overpriced version of the college experience, so you wonder if theres something to be said for just doing something completely different.

I doubt a soccer team would last a decade in Miami but what do I know. Lot of South Americans so maybe, but Cubans love beisbol and the Marlins......

This is the kind of thing that would kill in a city with good fans, but I can't imagine Miami pulling this off and it being a success.

It's beyond hysterical to compare the two recent proposals. Steve Ross wants to patch a 27 year old bland venue in an irrelevant location with nothing nearby other than the Calder barns. The Beckham group is incorporating one visionary aspect after another, and in the heart of a great city.

Different caliber of individuals involved. It's that simple. Ross is overmatched in anything related to football. Regardless of any legit concerns, the Canes have to gamble on greatness with the Beckham proposal. Make any concession that leads to a yes verdict, even if it seems questionable by current known quantities. That's what this program did in the old days, with bold hires like Jimmy Johnson. If we default to fear and play it safe, we're considerable underdogs to return to national championship level, IMO.

The guy has a **** of a vision, I'll tell you that. Well thought out and well presented. Each concern that rolled into my head was answered a paragraph or two later, and it was answered well.

I have no clue if it would be good for the city. It sounds like it might could work, with smart money, but who knows. Hopefully smarter and more well informed people than me have a clue.

Howard Schnellenberger, Jimmy Johnson.., David Beckham.

He could join the legends of Miami football if his drive for a Miami MLS team, and willingness to include us in the stadium plans, rescues us from the slums of Miami Gardens.

This would be the Orange Bowl of the future. Same beautiful view of our downtown. Intimate stadium with great sound. In the heart of Miami. This time right on the water with beautiful aerial shots during games. It would put the jaws of all recruits on the ground. We need this to happen.

I wanna pull up on the boat before a Miami FSU game at night, with the skyline reflecting off the water as I tailgate. I wanna BBQ while whores tan on the deck during a hot September afternoon before we host a top 10 matchup with Clemson. I want it ALL. I WANT DAT ****. I WANT DAT **** IN MY LIFE.

I'm over parking in a ******, dumpy parking lot next to Wal Mart, with great views of Sonic and some crackhead jerking off in a dumpster. **** Sun Life's face.

I like the little roof they have over the people because having a stadium at the port your gonna exspect a lot of rain... but I like the stadium this would be a good look for the u

I highly doubt they are going to get that location. The port is too important.

I have my fingers crossed on this but I feel that the SunLife renovations are what we are going to have to live with.

Yep. we'll probably be at sun life for a while. If they go through with the renovations at sun life it will improve the atmosphere.

to all those snickering at UM being included in this deal i have to ask you - what do we have to lose? there is no risk in talking to him and attempting to get him to build the stadium to the capacity we need. i admit its a long shot that he gives us the 40 plus we need but it doesn't hurt to talk. it is a **** of a lot more attractive than a half empty dolphin stadium.

How about this radical idea: Buy out the low value properties near the U and the Grove. Many of the tenants there are likely to be renters, others can be eminently purchased out by using eminent domain laws. Design the street access in and out so there is minimal impact on the Gables. Build high rise parking garages. Design the stadium for year around use by including bars, shopping, restaurants, bowling, etc.

If this sounds a bit like "ethnic cleansing" the county can build a "Levittown" like tract homes in South Dade, or give financial enticements to folks that want to buy existing homes there. "Enticements" may also be required to get certain politicians on board.

I'm sure the big government types at the U and their friends could make this vision happen. They have lots of experience revitalizing inner cities. :ibisroflmao:

One, Miami can get out of the Sun Life Stadium contract one way or another and I believe Ross would be reasonable in negotiations. Ross is intelligent and a decent guy sensitive to higher education (look at all his donations) and he knows Sun Life's shortcomings for the University of Miami. Ross knows the problems with Sun Life for the Dolphins as well and don't be surprised if he drops renovation plans at Sun Life for an entirely new stadium, he has the resources and won't be outdone by Beckham in my opinion.

The real questions are the viability of an alternative site; anything less than 40,000 to 45,000 seats plus private suites (at least 30 - 40) and club seating 1,000 - 2,000 is not feasible. I think the Port location would work but it would be also be traffic nightmare and that land might be better suited for Port of Miami development. A small 25,000 seat soccer stadium is a waste of public lands, it will become antiquated and another Marine Stadium. I'm surprised Beckham's group hasn't realized that the University of Miami maybe the key they need for approval.

Remember the one billion dollar tunnel and all the other improvements at Dodge Island are meant to build that area as a world port for the new Panama Canal. Selling out for a tiny soccer only stadium is a waste in my opinion.

The atmosphere at Beckham's stadium will be off the charts. It is fantastic. This will be greater than the OB as far as atmosphere

Yeah, that stadium design is definitely for soccer only. The Beckham group could possibly redesign if they can work something out with UM, but I'm not sure about that since they're the ones funding the project.

It's rather sad that UM have to work with Beckham's group and yet had no say in working with the Marlins' group in trying to accommodate both football and baseball. The city of Miami should have forced the issue, but the general feeling among UM officials is that they wanted the Canes out of the OB all along.

All I see is one huge traffic jam!!!! You think it is bad getting into and out of a heat game in Downtown???......multilply that 10 fold for this location!!

The stadium itself looks great, but I won't be getting season tickets anymore if they have us playing games at the Port of Miami. I'll go to select games, but that's it.

I'm looking forward to the updates to Sunlife stadium. As a north of Dade resident, I am spoiled by the convenience of Sunlife.
