do you see it now that his throws are off?
Which throws are off? The pick was awful, we all know that. But he completed 68% of his passes again. If you want to **** on something, it’s that his completion percentage is likely elevated by the fact that we rarely throw down the field. I think he had 4 attempts of 20+ yards. I have to go back and rewatch. But if Jojo makes a relatively easy catch on a perfectly good ball, he’s over 70% for over 300 yards at almost 8 a throw.
The incompletions I can remember off the top of my head were a bad Jojo drop, a very well thrown ball that Lofton dropped for a TD (he threw it away from contact), a well thrown ball to Toney that was broken up on what I thought was PI, the deep ball to Marion that was thrown to the outside shoulder where he was held, a flat drop by Fletcher, and the bad pick (which was a killer and can’t happen). That’s 6 of the 12 without thinking, only 1 was a bad throw. Yes, it was very bad and essentially ended the game.
In the first quarter, he was 7/8 with the one incompletion being a flat drop. And a TD on a nice vertical throw that Jojo also made a nice play on. He threw the **** out of some dig routes, mostly to Marion, for big plays. He had an explosive to Bauman called back for OPI on Toney.
Look at the first half drives:
1. Throws the ball well, has a bad drop by Fletcher and gets into a 3rd and 13 after a terrible play call to Toney where we’re asking him to catch the ball behind the LOS and break tackles. Not a great spot for a QB
2. 2/2 with a very good throw for a 36 yard TD
3. We get into a 2nd and 23 and then a 3rd and 33. Drive is dead because of penalties.
4. Pick on a very nice throw to Jojo that should’ve been a 20+ yard play
5. Two more penalties, gets into a 2nd and 14 then 3rd and 19. Drive is dead.
6. 3rd and 3 becomes a 3rd and 8 because of another ******* false start. Still converts to Marion. 3rd and 7 throw to Toney is accurate, I thought the DB climbed his back, we punt
7. Dropped TD
I’m not sure what we’re doing here. He needs to throw the ball downfield more. I’m not sure if he’s not due to his decisions or at Dawson’s direction, but the ball needs to go vertical more often. But he’s 5th in the country in completion percentage. I thought he played well enough to win, we just had way too many empty drives, especially in the first half, because we had SEVEN penalties on our offense. He’s not playing incredibly by any means, but he’s been accurate enough for us to be 7-1 this year. The Louisville game obviously was ******. But I thought he looked reasonably good on Saturday. Not Cam Ward good by any stretch, but good college QB good.
