Beautiful day legalized sports gambling

In FL, its legal to bet on horse racing, dog racing, and Jai Alai, but not sports betting; and I've yet to hear a reasonable explaination what the difference between the former and the latter is.

Frankly; it should all be legal. Online poker, should be legal (gambling card rooms are legal in the state if FL outside of reservations, some years back I considered opening one up).

Personally, I don't sports bet. But the idea of the government, after they have taxed my income, having the ability to tell me how to spend my money is ludicrous.
Pretty sure the peta nuts voted last cycle to eliminate dog racing in Florida

Disney and the Indian tribes don't want it and the voter stupidly voted for an Amendment last year that will make it harder to get it. Don't expect it in FL any time soon or ever.

Yeah, there was a few things on that ballot I couldn’t believe passed, and a couple that I couldn’t believe didn’t pass... the voters seemed retarded lol

Dumb question, but why would Disney be opposed to gambling in FL?

I don’t see an economic linkage.
I think they have concerns of casinos popping up around Disney World. Competition for the adults taking children on vacation (ditching the kids at night to go gambling instead of being in the parks or at Downtown Disney), and potentially hurting their family image.

That initiative was worded to be confusing, if I remember correctly

Edit: "This amendment ensures that Florida voters shall have the exclusive right to decide whether to authorize casino gambling by requiring that in order for casino gambling to be authorized under Florida law, it must be approved by Florida voters pursuant to Article XI, Section 3 of the Florida Constitution. Affects articles X and XI. Defines casino gambling and clarifies that this amendment does not conflict with federal law regarding state/tribal compacts."

Of course most people voted to give themselves the exclusive right for something, probably without realizing it would make casinos harder to attract/approve

Yeah they try to spice it up to confuse voters. It worked.

The ones that really surprised me not passing was the extra on the homestead exemption, and here (broward) the extra 1% tax... I work for a local municipal government and our entire leadership was pushing for it... but the money only goes to the county for county roads... doesn’t help all our roads that need it.

It was a confusing year on the ballot for sure for a lot of people

Am I the only person that watches sports simply for the competition? I couldn't care less about gambling. I get it that a lot of other people do. I couldn't care less for fantasy football. Fantasy football I just can't wrap my mind around. As a Dolphins fan, I can't root for Tom Brady just on principle, let alone cheer for him as he's torching the Dolphins secondary because he's on my fantasy team, but have at it.
They're all just forms of entertainment, games that really don't have anything to do with the game/sport itself. No different than playing video games or spades. But it's made extra intense by the fact real money is involved, like poker.

I can absolutely see why someone may not like gambling. Even FFB, I guess. To each their own. I really enjoy the action. If you're watching a football game and the favored team is up 17pts with 2 mins to go, as just a fan the excitement is over as the game has ended. But when you've got the underdog +17.5, you're on the edge of your seat til the final second! The games between the game just provide another layer of enjoyment, that's all.

I would say YES you are in the minority. Simple look at the numbers of both activites and now that gambling is going to be legalized it's only going to get bigger. The great thing about both is that u can setup your fantasy team or gambling to the players/teams you want. I will never bet on my favorite teams to lose or hated teams to win. I love that I can make money on something I love. That a win win.
Simple look at how sports news/scores are shown these days reflects how mainstream sports betting has become. You rarely see a score/upcoming game without a spread shown. Lots of channels now provide great betting info on the scroll bars. I love it! About **** time.

And SVP's Bad Beats segments are fantastic.

Exactly, this was intentionally misleading language to further an agenda. The line "ensures that Florida voters shall have the exclusive right" is absolute trickery. Sure, it's true on its face, otherwise it wouldn't be allowed. But it was 100% written to give people the impression they were voting FOR the right to legalize gambling. When, in fact, what the amendment did was take away the ability of local municipalities from being able to legalize gambling until it is approved by "Florida voters" in a statewide vote. It took away the most efficient way for this absurd prohibition to end.

Fortunately, it can (and I believe will) be amended again.

I've never bet even $1 on a game in my life. I do look at spreads fairly often just out of curiosity.

Well had a great time tonight picking some bets. My wife enjoy selecting the games so much better than cards or slots didn't put alot down but did multiple games

Point spread picks Canes, Texas AM, Army, UCF

Fun bets end of Q1 Canes -UNC will be tied.

ML parlay Cinti Bearcats and Cinti Bengals. 740 return on 25 bet. Sure money for the casino 🤣🤣🤣

We'll be lucky if this is even resolved by NEXT NFL season.

The "free" state of Florida. Ridiculous. Helluva job by our governor and special kudos to Billy Corben's buddy Izzy Havenick.
