Barry Jackson's Wednesday Buzz- new S&C at UM

Basically, what this thread has shown is that Mark Richt is not Nick Saban or Urban Meyer.

Here are the coaches to play for a national title during Richt's career at Georgia:

Larry Coker, Jim Tressel, Nick Saban, Bob Stoops, Pete Carroll, Mack Brown, Urban Meyer, Les Miles, Gus Malzahn, Chip Kelly, Brian Kelly, Jimbo Fisher, Gene Chizik.

So, the active coaches are:

Nick Saban x 4
Bob Stoops x 3
Urban Meyer x 3
Les Miles x 2
Brian Kelly x 1
Gus Malzahn x 1
Jimbo Fisher x 1

If you were ranking Richt as a head coach, you'd probably put him somewhere around 10th in the country. If you were expecting more, you probably had unrealistic expectations given where our program was at.

I also keep reading about how Richt didn't win the SEC enough, and how he did less with more. Georgia was 7th in the SEC in football revenue, 47% fewer resources than Alabama, 33% fewer than LSU, over 20% fewer than Florida. In fact, they were barely ahead of Kentucky! Georgia was 19th in the NCAA for public universities in revenues (barely half of what Oregon brings in).

You do with that what you will, but I can't be upset with the results he gave with the resources given. If you want to feel better about Diaz, Mississippi State was dead last in the SEC with $59.6 million in revenues. To keep his defense as competitive as he did with the resources given is quite impressive.

Solid.

I find it amusing watching these brainiacs trashing the Richt hire as if Saban or Meyer were right around the corner if we had just held out a little longer...douchebags.

Richt may or may not get it done here, but there are a few things to get excited about that did not exist in Athens:

1. The most fertile recruiting ground in his backyard;

2. Full autonomy as it relates to football decisions. Sure, it can be argued that Richt has "lost a step" from his two $EC Championship days, but were all the decisions his? Did he decide giving up play calling duties was in the best interest of the program? More likely than not, ADs, and in some cases Presidents, begin to tinker when you see a coach stay with a SEC program as long as Richt did without a NC appearance.

Richt will not be questioned by James, much less Rico Suave up top....

3. Like it or not, the $EC most years is simply a better conference. There is a reason why Jimbo wouldn't leave F$U for L$U...and it isn't because of how much more wonderful of an institution it is or all of the fond memories he has of his marriage in Trailerhassee. Coaching that may have been considered above-average in the $EC that kept a coach around well over a decade could easily put UM over the top. Keep top assistants around you that you trust, recruit the best of the best as he will try to do of course...and then proceed to play in a conference where you SHOULD only have to worry about 2 other teams that aren't even in the Coastal.

Yes, yes, yes...VT will have good years, so will GT and UNC.....but year in and year out, all things being equal, the Coastal should be in reach.

I don't like the man, but quite frankly, Saban is an anomaly. Even Alabama will come back crashing down to earth when he retires, even if Dabo took over. Same with Ohio Taint and Meyer. Soon we can might be throwing Harbaugh in that mix.

Trashing Richt by holding him up to the likes of those 2 coaches is simply a weak and short sighted comparison. Apples and oranges.

We will see what Richt's ultimate legacy will be right now. There will be nobody else to point the finger at if he doesn't succeed at UM. He is tantamount to the Head Coach and General Manager of a NFL franchise since he has a glorified intern as an AD and a soccer fan socialist as a President who wants the intern and trustees to handle everything.

Not sure why you guys even bother with facts and logic. There's always going to be a certain segment of people that will ***** no matter what. Miami could have brought Knute Rockne back from the dead and some jackass would be complaining "he ain't done **** in years!" When you consider all the realistic coaching candidates available this off season, Miami made the best possible hire. A proven winner with experience at the highest levels of college football. No coach is a 100% slam dunk but I think UM got the best available guy for the job. I don't think any of the other candidates were even close.

Lol wait people are actually complaining about CMR.. Lol we just had Al Golden an before thatbot was Randy Shannon..richt won over 140 games at uga.. Yall ****** trippin

Some of the fans on this site actually hate Miami. They complain about the good things we have going for us such as Kaaya and Coach Richt while idolizing everything UF and FSU related. Some of them love Butch more than the Canes. Basically, nothing they say matters and they don't know what our tickets actually look like.

Agreed, people are just praying that things are drastically different than what we have become accustomed to over the past 5 years.

Based on the eye test Georgia's players would have curb stomped ours and then run a marathon. This isn't hard to believe.

Oh.....the same UGA that lost to the "Al Golden Equivalent" coached Tennessee and offensively challenged UF?

Not!

Any team with a slight pulse was capable of beating UGA on any given Saturday! That is why we have Mark Richt now.

You mean the same Tennessee team that had Alabama on the ropes in Tuscaloosa. Jones is stockpiling a lot of talent in Knoxville. And that's a very young team that will be a lot more experienced this year. Easily the best team in the SEC East this fall. Florida beat the crap out of Georgia because Bauta was just awful. Still Georgia won 10 games in a conference that went 9-2 in bowl season with a national championship to go along with it.

Tennessee is going to win the East. They lost to OU in 2 OT's, lost to Bama by 5, easily could have beaten both. Then lost two more games by 1 and 4 points respectively. They have a ton of momentum headed to spring ball and beyond.

So which SEC team do you support?
Not sure why mods allow your chromosomally-challenged redneck *** to post on this site.

I was a big bring back Butch supporter, but I don't understand why both the anti-Butch crowd and the pro-Butch crowd keep bringing him up. Let it go already. It's fokking ridiculous. Name 1 coach since Howard fans have been fired up over? Canes fans *****ed about Jimmy, Dennis, Butch, Larry, Randy or fat Al. Of all of those hires Larry probably had the most fan support. Please don't say, "he won us our 5th NC!". Terry Bowden could've coached that team to a NC. Canes have never been satisfied with any hire right away. Let's see how coach Richt does on the field, I think we are going to be very happy Canes fans. Enough with the Butch **** from both sides. I think some of you are still hurt from being kicked to the curb by Mary Jane Rottencrotch after you got laid for the first time, why Mary Jane, why?!

This has been a public service announcement.

Go Canes!

Why do some of y'all feel the need to bash the SEC?

Is it just to balance the scales of what you consider to be a "pro-SEC" sentiment?

The debate is trivial, IMO.

Th best SEC programs are better than the top programs in other conferences. The mid-level SEC teams are better than the mid-level teams from other confences. And their bottom schools are better than other bottom schools. The majority of their programs just care more about football ... It's a fact.

We hired a coach that hovered between top level and mid-level in the SEC. At minimum, that means we should be above the other mid-level programs. The question is, will he be able to get us over the hump with easier access to better players?

As for the S&C report ... It's normal off-season nonsense. Everyone has always claimed to be getting bigger, stronger, and faster during the off-season. Even Chick use to speak positively about the S&C program ... And now we know his true feelings.

As has been mentioned ... We'll find out how good Felder is on Saturday next Fall. In particular, in the games against Notre Dame and FSU ...

Well said! Big ups!
