Barry Jackson's Latest: Mark, Blades & Soldinger

Soldinger wasn't talking about Kehoe, he was talking about himself. And he was right.

The magic element is that old, wise sage who has been through everything with the program.

We need a 'Canes Gandalf, if you will.

Ted Hendricks! We need Hendricks closer to the football program. I mean, the man's nickname is "The Mad Stork" for crying out loud.

Get that man an analyst job.

Love what Kehoe did for this program in the past...hence, I said the past. He has no reason to be on this staff.
Manny has been a tremendous boost for this program with a renewed energy and profile. He has adressed the old coaches and former great players. He has done a tremendous job and owes no one anything. Canes Cartel loves on.

You get 10 guys on staff. We're all a little weird when we say things like "on staff." You're absolutely right. Manny owes no one anything. Especially right now, to placate a few people here and there. BUT, there are guys you really should make a point to have around the program, and those you shouldn't. I'm not saying either for anyone. To me, it comes down to ensuring guys who really should be involved are, and those that we should keep at a distance, do exactly that.

Especially if Manny's abuela is around.

Read the article...and...Today I learned....There is a University of Fort Lauderdale....

Other University of Fort Lauderdale tidbits....Athletic Director: Bennie Blades....Total enrollment: 22 students....

That's less students than in my Sweatin To The Oldies Class...

Would love to have Solly back. He hit it on the head with the entitlement comment regarding present-day college football.

My issue with his comments aren't that they're wrong but they rubbed me as "telling it like it is" only because there seems to be some bitterness that a guy like him or Kehoe isn't just gifted a spot on staff and a salary because they've earned sometime lifetime right to it or something.

Him trying to **** on the transfers was what pushed me into being rubbed the wrong way with his "frankness". He would've had more credibility if he just stopped at the comments about entitled mentalities. He also kinda took a shot at #TNM.

I'm sure there's some bitterness there ever since Clappy sacked him.
But I particularly agree with his comments telling players to "stop texting, get off the phones, and get their asses to work"

Well said.

There's a weird schism between the old guard and the new. We had five rings in 18 years followed by zero rings in 17 years. We're at a tipping point in the most real way possible. I get why a guy like Soldy would feel vindictive. But that also, to me, seems to be a product of not having him around.

He's an old man who has a lot to say and wants to be heard. It would behoove us to listen to some of it.

I'm really not seeing the problem here. Coaches always think the guys they've worked with are the best and new HCs are making a mistake not hiring them. It's not salty, it's just human nature. When given the chance to hire, coaches usually pick somebody they've worked with before.

And the transfer thing? That sounded to me like he was talking to the transfers telling them they don't have it made just because they got a spot at Miami.

Same thing Luke was saying???

Soldinger was never a guy to hold back his feelings. Give me a guy that states hard truth over a guy that can say a smooth lie anyday.

You wanna be great, you want to dominate? Take your 30 seconds, tweet something for the day, and then get your *** to work.

The old canes talked trash, but it meant something because we were whooping everyones ***. Now we got guys that talk trash, and get their *** whipped.

Old heads need to realize the players are different now. Physically, mentally... this is the social media era. It’s not going away and kids love it.. they will say anything for likes and retweet’s... kids now just don’t play and think football 24 hrs a day... it’s a new era of football and Manny understands that... old heads struggle adjusting to this new era of players... not saying it’s bad or good but it’s reality.... your environment has to be geared to this new aged student athlete. Even Saban has adjusted.., look at Clemson, Ohio State, etc..

Soldy sounds a bit salty.....and irrational
Just sounds old & crotchety to me.

My father thought my generation was a bunch of candy asses because we didn't have to fight a war over the future of the world. I think this new generation is a bunch of candy asses because they are more worried about their social media presence than getting the job done. We're both right. It comes with age. Kids today.
