Barry Jackson -update on the UM/Diaz situation later today.

You’d think so. But when you look at Miami’s gifts vs an SEC school, Miami is MUCH more focused on mega donations.

As an contrast, UGA just had a similar campaign. They raised 1.4bn in just under five years. The largest gift was also the largest gift in the history of the school, from the Woodruff Foundation for $30m. They got donations from 175k people. SEPARATE from that, their athletic association got $260m in donations in roughly the same time. They are getting $50 here, $200 there from tens of thousands of people.

The big money boosters at UM largely don’t have those same types of ties to the school.

All truth.

The only money you’d have to come up with immediately would be the two buyouts and I’m sure they can be negotiated to be paid over time as well as possibly be negotiated down.If not 15-17 million isn’t that much in the grand scheme of things.Especially if that same donor that was willing to pay for Mario is still willing to step up now.
Everything else is paid in increments and can be paid for by the added revenues the school would get from season ticket sales( which I have to believe would go up considerably) ,apparel sales , donations and all other revenue streams that we have. Not to mention the money that would be saved from the loss of the aforementioned revenue streams when season tickets are cancelled ,donations dry up and other revenue streams dry up.
Yea it may be 50 million dollars but that’s over 5 years and 10 million is only a couple million more than what we were paying when Richt was here.
10,000 season tickets at what 200 bucks ( dont know what they are since I moved away and don’t have them anymore.) is 2 million bucks. So that only leaves like 2 million to be made from donations and other revenue streams.Easily attainable.
This ain’t that hard…it just takes stepping up and hiring the right guy and the money will take care of itself once that hire ( hopefully) turns things around .

I already did. Mirabal is coming, Ponce from App St as well. Field at minimum with be the RC or RD (whatever title Mario gives) and DVD will probably be out back in recruiting. T-Rob staying is probably gonna happen as well. I see it like this.

CO-OC/QB: Ponce
CO-OC/RB: Seider
WRs: TBD
TE: TBD
OL: Mirabal

DC/OLBs: Tim Deruyter

DL: Joe Salave’a or Kevin Patrick

ILBs: Ismael Aristide

Secondary: T-Rob

Open spot: TBD
Give me Holmon Wiggins from Bama as the WR coach and it’s cream your pants time

If Oregon goes to the playoff it’ll make things more difficult for UM.
Honestly, they still may not win the North. This board is going to be hilarious after they inevitably drop a game or 2. He’s got them playing really well and ahead of schedule even with injuries and a meh QB.

That’s what I don’t get, the marginal/incremental increase in annual salaries could easily be offset by winning and the added revenues that come with fielding a top 15 team

Maybe it’s time we rethink the way we raise money..I laid it out the other day with people just putting up 200 bucks. If you can’t get a million dollar donation go get 10,000 hundred dollar ones.

There’s a **** of a lot more people that can afford to donate 100-200 bucks to have a winning program than can or will donate a million bucks.

Again this sHT ain’t that hard.Money to build a winning program should be easy.

You’re not wrong, but it’s also much easier when you’re cranking out 10,000 graduates a year vs 3,000. These schools’ alumni bases are HUGE.

Why? Wouldn’t the buyout be less? Or are you thinking Oregon will throw a boatload at him if they make the playoffs?
The buyout drops from 9 mill to 6.5 mill on January 14th 2022. I don’t think they school wants to wait an extra month to hire him if he even wants to leave after making the playoff. Also this type of situation has never happened where a sitting head coach leaves for another program to be HC.

The old adage “ you gotta spend money to make money” certainly applies here….we’ve been on the cheap for 2 decades paying off one bad contract for a ****** coach after bad contract for a ****** coach.

If they had just stepped up and paid to keep Butch 22 years ago he’d of stayed and we’d of had at least 5-6 more NC trophies in the case and we wouldn’t have been suffering all these years.

For rich people that have made their money being smart business people they’ve sure as fck been stupid time and time again when it comes to paying for a decent coach for the program that put your school on the national map.

A lot of imagery in bold. This is giving me some serious flashback PTSD.

You’re not wrong, but it’s also much easier when you’re cranking out 10,000 graduates a year vs 3,000. These schools’ alumni bases are HUGE.
Donations don’t always have to come from alumni…Ex.: how many people are on this site? How many of them are actual alumni?

Now the question. How many of the non-alumni would reach down in their pockets and pledge a couple hundred bucks for the next 5 years if it meant we could be prominent again?I’m gonna take a guess and say a minimum of 95%

Now how many season tickets holders we have? 30K ? Now the same question ? How many of them would be more than happy to pledge a minimum of 200 bucks a year to hire a coach that could turn this program around?

Let’s say 75% cause you probably have 20% that already donate so take them out if the equation.

That’s 22,500. X just 200 bucks a year. That’s 4.5 million dollars. There’s all the extra money you need to bring in a top notch coach and staff. 4.5 million without a donation of more than 200 bucks.I’m pretty sure you would get a lot of pledges for much more than 200 bucks but you see how easy that is.

Again raising money to pay for a coach and a staff,as long as that money went to an actual good coach and great staff , should never be an issue.

While that is true Northwestern just announced today that they raised $6.1 billion for their lastest campaign over the last 7 years. Northwestern has an average class size of just 2,000 students. They even mentioned that the Ryan family gave the largest gift at $480 million and the BOT accounted for $1.8 billion. About 58% of all gifts from alumni were $100 or less.

Like I said..not having enough money is an excuse you use because you screwed up.You know the “ well we could have hired Meyer for 5 million a year back then but we only had 3 million so we hired Shannon.” Type of excuse.

You get down in the trenches to the people that love this program.Yea of course there’s not many that can dole out a million on a yearly basis but there’s a few thousand that will step up and give 1-5 grand and thousands that would step up to give 100-500.

And all they’d ask is that you win…

For those thinking Mario and Zo ...would that be realistically a good combo? Two strong willed alphas who know what they want? Is Mario going to accept an overseer that’s going to be intimately involved in every aspect of your program and give the stamp of approval to assistants, etc?

I am certainly intrigued by the prospect but not sold this is a match made in heaven either.

Would like to hear others opinion on this possibility.

Well then, keep dreaming, @Salt .
