Fair point but it’s a different pool for the university as a whole vs sports. Most of our big boosters are from the area but didn’t go to school at Miami, so the ties to sports aren’t quite so strong. As an example, Stuart Miller gave $100m in 2005 or so to rename the medical school and later on gave another gift of $50m or so. But those went to the areas he is most passionate about, and you don’t see his name on much (if anything) around the athletics facilities.

Most of our big boosters are from the area but didn’t go to school at Miami, so the ties to sports aren’t quite so strong. As an example, Stuart Miller gave $100m in 2005 or so to rename the medical school and later on gave another gift of $50m or so. But those went to the areas he is most passionate about, and you don’t see his name on much (if anything) around the athletics facilities.

I can understand that but out of that 2 billion I find it hard to believe that we couldn’t get someone or a couple of someone’s to write a 5- 10 million dollar check for the football team something that would only enhance the schools identity and reputation which would lead to more enrollments which ultimately would lead to more alumni which would lead to more boosters that would lead to more donations…

Surely out of that 2 billion there has to be at least one or two people that see the upside of s successful sports program and the cash cow it can become.

She had quite a fundraising system in place. We got hit up as soon as my daughter registered for graduation. (She was in the School of Nursing and Health Sciences). The kids are asked to donate then too.

"If UM offered (Cristobal) $7 million annually to try to entice him to leave Oregon in a five-year deal, that's $35 million," Jackson said. "It also would cost $9 million to buy out Cristobal's contract before January of 2022, or $6.5 million afterward. That and buying out the final two years and $8 million of Diaz’s contract in December would cost more than $50 million."

Whoever said this is adding up all the buyouts and the TOTAL of a hypothetical Mario contract. Since.. ya know.. contracts are paid in full up front. Smh..

It wouldn’t change the contract or buyout currently in place per se… he would just have a lot more leverage with Oregon and potentially Miami from a salary demands standpoint

10 million per for Mario ? No.

Mario will be more than this BOT/AD will be willing to take. They will probably throw up at the number, weak asses.

You’d think so. But when you look at Miami’s gifts vs an SEC school, Miami is MUCH more focused on mega donations.

As an contrast, UGA just had a similar campaign. They raised 1.4bn in just under five years. The largest gift was also the largest gift in the history of the school, from the Woodruff Foundation for $30m. They got donations from 175k people. SEPARATE from that, their athletic association got $260m in donations in roughly the same time. They are getting $50 here, $200 there from tens of thousands of people.

The big money boosters at UM largely don’t have those same types of ties to the school.

I think the trickier components to get hashed out are the budgets to build out a staff.

Oregon has two guys on staff that are infinitely more qualified and with better resumes than Manny Diaz in Moorhead and DeRuyter
