NFL showing interest in Kaaya; UM, Heat, Marlins notes | Miami Herald

• The Chicago Bears have displayed particular interest in UM junior quarterback Brad Kaaya, sending three representatives to the Nov. 5 UM-Pittsburgh game.

One NFC scout insisted last week that Kaaya needs to return to school, and ESPN’s Todd McShay said: "Kaaya will be more reliant than other guys in this class on finding the right system. He's a good fit for a West Coast scheme. But he won't be for everyone because he doesn't have the arm strength to play in certain windy-weather locales. Kaaya will need to add bulk and get stronger before he can be handed the keys to a franchise. I'd like to see him return to school and get another year of experience playing in a pro-style system."

• Among UM players, ESPN’s Mel Kiper has Kaaya his No. 5 draft-eligible QB, Chris Herndon his No. 7 fullback and Justin Vogel his No. 9 punter and no other UM player in his top 10 at any position.

But cornerback Corn Elder is rising. "Elder’s a really good player; you turn on the film and go, ‘Whoa!’" one NFC scout said last week.

• Shaquille Quarterman generated a lot of the early publicity - and deservedly so - but don’t overlook what other freshmen linebackers, Mike Pinckey and Zach McCloud, achieved this season.

"Every game he flashes,” defensive coordinator Manny Diaz said of Pinckney. “Every game he makes a play that is sort of outside the structure of what a normal linebacker should do, a `wow' type play. He's learning the consistency of being an every down WILL linebacker. He’s a guy that plays fast, and it's hard for freshmen a lot of times to play fast.”...

UM ruled cornerback Adrian Colbert out for the Duke game with a broken forearm but hopes he can return for the bowl game.

Yearby should go even though he won't be a high pick, maybe not picked at all. But he will get a shot and probably make a roster. He has nothing to gain by staying, his stock won't move up after another year of heavy back up duty. NFL wants young legs for running backs. I don't think Bryce had 100 carries in college and he hung around the league a few years. Nobody else should leave.

I love the Canes. But articles like this point out how delusional some in our fan base are.

The NFL scouts are telling us how talented this team is, based on the guys they want in their league.

Everybody eligible to return to school should do so. It's the best decision for their draft stock and for the program.

Agreed. He'll make a squad whether hes drafted or not and he's only going to get less carries next year.

I'd argue he has to stay and play special teams next year. He won't be anyone's "feature back", so his value is going to be finding a spot on special teams.

And he's a Walton injury away from getting quality reps at running back.

Insane they have 10 corners rated higher than Corn. Some team is gonna hit the jackpot w him.
Shows you just how subjective the whole process is and how wide open it is to error. There have been dude's who have gone undrafted who won the NFL MVP and guy's picked in the top 10 who regularly bust.

Corn is going to have a 12 year career of excellence in that NFL.

The NFL guys like McShay and Kiper? Or the actual NFL guys from the Bears who are thinking of making Kaaya a millionaire? Or the NFL guys who loaded up on UM players that guys like you sold short from Folden's 6-7 team?

These guys are only discussing the junior and senior classes. Keep in mind also that there is more talent on a team than that which is currently in the junior and senior classes. In fact, a team like Ohio Taint is on the verge of the playoff with the youngest team in college football.

And he is tiny and slow. He should not be assuming a long high dollar NFL career. This kid needs to get his degree and I would put the odds of that happening later very low if he leaves miami without it.

Way too early 2017 All-ACC candidates

Kaaya
Walton
Richards
Njoku
Chad
Norton
Shaq

I just gotta laugh at the talk about Yearby leaving early. He wouldn't be drafted even. He needs to stay and maybe he will have a chance then. And I don't think him leaving would hurt us really as he is the 4th best back IMO on the team now and that doesn't include who we would add with recruiting. Walton is on another level from everyone else but Yearby should use that as motivation to work harder then he has ever worked.

Only on a UM board are a bunch of guys suggesting an important backup, who likely won't even get drafted, should declare early for the draft.

Richards and Shaq will be All Americans before they leave.

Richards, Shaq and Pickney.

We need to bring in another stud receiver and a couple of studs in the secondary this class to make the most out of their time here. Recruits need to open their eyes and see we're just a couple of big time players away from being a serious contender.
