Barry Jackson Al Blades

I dont have an issue w Barry reporting it how he did. I don't think it violated any privacy.

Where he ****ed up was getting into a back and forth with Blades, which he shouldn't have even entertained. But he couldn't resist, and in the process he came off like a condescending *** with his responses.

thats my take on it. looks like the SID ****ed up and barry took the hit. Barrys mistake was continuing the back and forth with the **** player lol. let it go and bring it up privately with the SID for the miscommunication
Well, Barry may have taken a hit but he did throw it back to the SID. That was apparently his source.

Maybe it wasn’t the SID.....just saying

i think barry reported it w no issues. its pretty standard reporting. he didnt leak the condition either (same with the tae williams stuff). either way, if the SID said go ahead without getting the players consent, then theres the issue. as of now, we can only take what we see -- barry is blaming the SID

it does seem to be the source as barry stated. either way, it was gross to make it a public shouting match. let it be and handle it privately with the SID and blades.

Exactly. If Barry had clearance from the SID, he didn't do anything wrong (since I assume UM doesn't let him contact players directly). But getting into a back-and-forth with ABJ on Twitter is so dumb... Should have just said "I got clearance to report the story from the SID, but I apologize if there was a mix-up in communication. Hope you make a full recovery and get back on the field soon" or just said nothing at all.

I’ve got an issue with whoever told Barry as well but Barry is not a victim here and definitely not blameless.

i dont wanna defend a person who reported a season ending injury without the players approval it seems, but he deserves blame for getting into it with blades. i dont think his initial reporting was problematic. he didnt disclose any private info and left it as confidential. it got ugly after that

That’s fine. Personally I do have an issue with it as well as getting into it with Blades but that’s just my opinion on the situation. And also looking at it from his point of view is it really worth it getting the info out 10 minutes before Blades did it himself? Look at the backlash

I didn't like the way either handled it. The entire exchange was uncomfortable. Very rarely does engagement on Twitter end up well for anyone.

to your latter point -- agreed and thats where it gets a bit iffy -- did the SID tell barry its okay to report now bc blades will announce it since UM doesnt allow reporter player contact without UM approval or did barry actually say im gonna beat the player himself to it which is dumb. barry doesnt seem to be that reporter from as long as ive followed him, but it is a lesson to learn esp when reporting player injuries/issues for all reporters going forward. i know SMD or CC reported that stroud and scavo were hospitalized with covid but only did it after they were released and had a story on it. maybe thats the way to go

Nah Barry's initial response was b*tchy & condescending to a kid who just got terrible health news... "Feel better. As UM told you, I waited until you were comfortable with me releasing it" is not tactful at all

yes agreed. didnt say he meant it in a good manner tho. he def lashed out when it seems he was fed bad info by his source (SID) and took it out on blades. it all couldve been avoided by saying sorry (as you said or someone else did) and left it as such. then barry could contact the SID and let him //her know what happened

Yeah. It seems to me, that the MAJORITY of peeps in this forum DON'T have anything else better to do, but CAPE and what not. huh?

Chit, the infamous Watergate Affaire may have not come out of the dungeon, if it weren't for the fine outstanding Washington Post. YES!!!

Yeah, yeah, yeah. U'all HATE both the WPost and the NY Times because their socialist news papers and all that. SO WHAT!!!!!!!!!!!

What?

Barry shows up to every presser, Phins, Heat, Canes, etc. and asks whoever is there (radio guys mainly) or TV guys what they're hearing and then goes and prints himself. Then just a few weeks ago he said Ira stole a story from him lol. Ira has about 3000000 more sources inside the Heat than @Spotlight

ehh disagree on Ira. hes the worst sourced writer for the heat in terms of breaking actual stories. the heat use certain reporters to relay misinformation that they want to put out there (did this with a certain reporter concerning the waiters initial ankle injury when it got leaked that it was actually 2 month injury). Barry may not be the best beat guy, but hes far better than Ira. for heat news, the best local guys are really the podcast guys (ethan skolnick -- hes close with wade), lebatard (hes close with nick and riley), and tim reynolds (hes got a relationship with one of the agents)

Skolnick got his positioning with the Heat because of Ira. Ira been there 32 years man, he isn't in the breaking business anymore, more of the liaison. Not a defender of his, just speaking the truth. Used him as an example of a Barry meltdown a few weeks back. Barry tries to out scoop everyone and notice how he is always caught up in bs with everyone in town?

The problem is that Barry is the only "insider" in town as it relates to UM stuff. He's the only one doing that. The rest of the UM folks really only do more summary and recap stuff that isn't particularly insightful. I'm usually not interested in reading recaps of what I just saw. I liked it when Pete was providing info because it added some depth/knowledge Barry couldn't provide but that's long gone. The Canes don't get the coverage I'd like, but its understandable given the lack of national relevance in 10+ years.

not true. How about CIS and its unprecedented staff of writers, insiders and analysts?

If the SID gave permission, he did nothing wrong in releasing that tweet. Where he went wrong was afterward in his interaction with Blades. Once contacted, he should've taken the tweet down and had a conversation (dm, phone, face to face, whatever) with Blades. That back-and-forth is not the way to do it.
