I much rather have some straight, serious, backups and third stringers playing - than some ******* starters who may be foggy during season on alcohol or even pot.

Those are NOT team members - no matter how good they could be.

Using starters - maybe buzzed - helps explain our amazing six win season.

Our Offensive Coordinator called plays like he'd just finished off a tater all by himself.

Manny gotta clean this crap up.

If you had Cheech Williams as your QB, you'd be limited in what you'd call as well.

Sam Jankovich would never hire a first time HC. He had a terrible experience at another school and that's why he hired JJ instead of Olivadotti and Erickson instead of Gary Stevens.

Probably a big mistake by an inexperienced Blake James.

When I interviewed Najeh Davenport for this site about his documentary on that era, he told a story about a group of players basically jumping an offensive lineman who didnt make his 'gassers' during an off-season workout. I believe he was talking about Robert Sampson (edit, I believe it was actually Jay Gordon), since he was from Texas. Said the guy was so demoralized he soon quit the team

Lets not pretend our teams -- or any program, really -- is filled with choir boys with the discipline of a monk or Bernard Hopkins. But we need to get a team full of guys who really give a **** about this program and football

Gary McLain played point guard for Villanova the year they upset Patrick Ewing and Georgetown. He doesn't remember the final 4 game against Memphis State because he was coked up. I think he had 2 turnovers.

All of this info on Williams is pretty well known but the fact that BJ decided to publish it now I think is strategic. Someone high up wants Jarren gone. I also think Jarren got a heads up about the piece which explains why he posted a random workout pic.

I see what you're getting at, but having a head coach in name only has the potential to be disastrous....like 4-5 wins disastrous. Roll of the dice here but I guess he doesn't have many options at this point.

Bingo. I fault the coaches for letting it happen. It's their job to keep these young men straight. What a complete fail Manny has been in every way.

Not if you are an ex-coach needing another job. "Hey, when Jarren Williams wasn't high as a kite, my coaching allowed him to set a team record ar MIAMI!"

You think this information eases the hate?

The last thing any athletic department wants is a piece about how their players are drunk and doing drugs. If anything this just put more pressure on Manny

But stuff like this doesn't just change in an offseason. The chances he can actually turn this around are slim

Funny.....I still remember Sam Jankovich's stirring speech to the alumni and boosters at the motel before the 1986 WVU game in Morgantown. He bragged about how tough the athletic department's drug testing programs was....is it still in place and what do they do with the results?

I used to dislike such programs on civil liberties grounds and not because I like or use drugs (I don't) but if a school invests hundreds of thousands of dollars in you as a scholarship athlete maybe they should have the right to make sure you're not impaired.

If a QB (particularly) blows a game because he's impaired, he's cheating everybody-- coaches, teammates, fans, and ticket purchasers.

I hate to cast blame at one young person but maybe he should leave because we have lost trust in him.
