Barry J. article discussing the internal power struggle

But the biggest obstacle remains UM’s apparent reluctance to give Highsmith the type of authority and responsibilities he would need to make a real difference.

Congrats to Zo for holding his ground.

Signed,

Peruche

He probably was laughing and shaking his head as he hung up the phone on Blake. He knew once this story leaked about what really happened it would look so bad that Manny and Blake wouldn’t recover long term unless we somehow we 11-1/12-0 next year. This will be the top story of the offseason locally and they will have to answer to the fan base and local media about why they phucked this up. At every fundraiser and banquet they make appearances at with alumni and boosters they will be asked about this. When former players come by they will be asked about this. It was a win-win for Zo. And the ultimate lose-lose for Manny and Blake.

Here is what they say about Blake:

"If he was the #2 in Miami's Athletic Department, he would be the best #2 in the country. Even better than Bama's #2"

"Great knowledge of finance and accounting. Does well with donors because he speaks the language of business perfectly."

"Hard worker. Puts in long hours."

"Too nice. We need a ******* like Jankovich."

"Too loyal."

"Great boss and great manager, but allows loyalty to cloud his judgment."

"No talk of removing him but it Diaz completely implodes, they will fire him as well. He better have a definitive and universally acceptable solution in place in case Diaz performs abjectly next year."

If James wants to keep his job, he better deliver a stellar candidate to the BOT the moment that he has to fire Diaz. Blake has to arrive at the BOT meeting with a verbal agreement in place with a proven coach and that coach better sign the contract.......
Sounds like he needs a second in command who can point out when he needs to be ruthless.

Highsmith needs to be put into need possiton OVER James and Manny. They both suck at football so let James raise money and Highsmith spend it and Manny make up slogans while Highsmith picks staff and recruits. Or just fire James and Manny and hire Highsmith as frigging AD.

CMD/Blake /BOT clown show continues . this is the perfect opportunity to make the dynamic change we need to make to be
a consistent winner. Blake can not envision what it takes as in we need to hire an OC first.get Highsmith involved to make that decision as well. CMD/Blake are only protecting their turf..... only thing they have going forth is Blake watering down the schedule Wagner, UAB, Temple.....
good news is that spotlight is landing on AD Blake and his spectacular misadventures
they both have to go ASAP

What exactly is wrong with his defense? I know it could be better but it's problems are miniscule compared to the offenses. We were highly ranked in a number of defensive categories, and, as I recall, top 25 in many other major categories. Is that correct? I can see some areas that can improve but despite the presence of some less than stellar coaches, and needed improvement in some areas (and some damaging lapses, like on 4th down plays) our record would have been far better with an improved offense.
4th and 17 and dead last in 4th down conversion and near the bottom in 3rd down conversion and on top of that making every rookie/first time QB look like a heisman candidate. Mannys defense is average at best with a bunch of smoke and mirrors gimmicky bull$hit. Lispy sucks!

BJ’s people on the Board are leaking to Barry. If these leaks didn’t have the approval of Blake’s patrons on the BOT, plus Congresswoman Shalala, they wouldn’t be happening.

I suspect that this is more than about football.
If Blake is leaking all of this then he is a bigger moron than any of us thought, if that were possible. The article is definitely framing Diaz as stubborn, but they make BJ look like a spineless, visionless leader who is allowing his subordinate (who failed at his job) to call the shots.

Power struggle is only going to make next season worse. Players won't compete/care since they know Diaz will be gone.
This will also hopefully mean the end for James/Strawley and co. Very good thing. Another good reason to cut the cord with Diaz, and everyone NOW!

This all falls on the BOT.THEY are the ones that wield the power.

All they have to do is tell Flake “ this is what’s going to happen.Hire Highsmith give him this much power and if you can’t or won’t do it we will get someone who can.

Tell Manure this is the way it Is and if he doesn’t like it tell him to quit and if he does it saves us from having to give him a buyout.

Neither of these two idiots has done anything where they should be able to tell the BOT anything. Its not like they are trying to hire someone to help Saban. This cuck lost to FIU.

Don’t give Flake or Manure a choice. They've done nothing to earn a say so in the matter.

This is correct. But will it ever happen?

It’s a paradox. Nothing is going to change and yet, this potential change as you describe it, would be an enormous change. So the Football AD would be overseen by the BoT? The same BoT we all despise. Or the school president? The same president who has absolutely no clue about football. And you’re going to strip the current AD of the most important sport in the athletic department? What happens when the Football AD and the HC don’t get along, even when the HC is the star of the show? Why would you give this one person so much power over the HC? It’s a good idea in theory, but it would breed more chaos and disorder like in the pros, IMO.
The pros operate in chaos and disorder?

I actually think In the specific case of UM this arrangement makes perfect sense. There is an AD who has failed in his job as it relates to choosing leaders for each team. You have a coach who has failed in his job as it relates to choosing assistants for his team, and players as well.

Adding someone who has a track record of success doing the things the HC and AD usually do makes perfect sense. There’s no reason Zo can’t answer to Blake, as Blake is still the AD but is Just hiring Someone to take over some tasks. And there is no reason Diaz should be allowed to continue to operate without a football person over his shoulder.
