Barry J. article discussing the internal power struggle

Was in Miami for a week. One wealthy businessman that I spoke with said that there is a 0.9 inverse correlation between football prowess and academic ranking. He is thrilled about Miami's national academic ranking. He says 2/3 of donors agree with him and cites the $35M allocated to football from the $4B in recent campaigns.

Another large donor said that they expected "growing pains" with Manny, but they were also expecting a 9-3 record during 2019 with noticeable improvement during the latter half of the season. If Manny does not win 9 games next year, they will fire him. (Also spoke with FSU BOT member. Taggart arrived at office at 8AM and departed at 5PM. Taggart does not believe in ever disciplining players. Laziest high ranking executive they have ever met.)

One thing about Manny that everyone agrees on is that he is a manical worker. No one outworks him. Diaz puts in 100 hour weeks routinely. He is genuinely trying to succeed.

Everyone I spoke to at this point expects Manny to be fired next year by late November. They are preparing for his replacement... He will probably fail, but one never knows. He is working like a fiend.
Lol

Mario has won the Rose Bowl, folks! Beat back a tough Wisky team.
And they looked tougher than Wisky down the stretch too. Unbelievably happy for Mario, he had his team fighting the entire game. Watch as Phil Knight extends Mario for the next 4yrs. Kiss that hope goodbye and watch Oregon make their way into the CFP in the next 2-3yrs. Too much to replace after this 2019 team but he’s slowly turning the corner in Eugene. Oh well, there goes that happy thought....

How many NFL teams have a GM with the power to oversee the team incl hiring and firing the HC?

I couldn't care less if no cfb program does it. Up until recently how many programs had a support staff like the one nick saban assembled?
So then what happens when Manny is fired? What do you do with Highsmith’s role once the new coach is hired? Tell him, now you can be the nice copy boy? Or what legitimate coach would come here to work for 2 bosses? C’mon man

I'm not sure I'm sold on this Highsmith-as-Manny's-boss arrangement, tbh. Although it definitely could help in the short term, it sets a weird precedent where instead of firing a coach we know to be incompetent, we change the whole leadership structure of the football program. Why can't we just get a fckin competent head coach like plenty of other schools have????
I look at the position as an outside consultant with power (most fortune 500 companies hire outside consultants although they normally don't have any power just recommendations).

Alonso would come in and do a deep evaluation of the football program and then tell Cuck James this what needs to happen to fix the football program. If it includes that the head coach position should be upgraded so be it.

I want Manny and Blake out. That being said hiring someone else to have authority over the head coach could hinder us in the future hiring a decent head coach. Now if that person had total control of football and did not have to answer to the AD might have no effect. Essentially that would be like having 2 AD s. One for footbsll and one for the other sports. Would be interesting scenario to say the least

There seems to be a really obvious solution for the BOT. Fire Blake James, hire Alonzo Highsmith as AD. Eliminate the road block. Only question would be whether Highsmith would be up for running all athletics.

It's interesting. This article leans more towards throwing Diaz under the bus alone. It implies Blake is open to this change. Yesterday, it was a different take. Blake James was the bad guy and not willing to make the hire or even speak with Highsmith initially.

BJ’s people on the Board are leaking to Barry. If these leaks didn’t have the approval of Blake’s patrons on the BOT, plus Congresswoman Shalala, they wouldn’t be happening.

I suspect that this is more than about football.

Why is this so hard to understand? AH would be in charge of football, like blake is now. Blake runs the fund raising and other sports. AH would make football decisions. Who do you want to be in charge when hiring the next HC? BoT, B;ake, Strawley??

Are you kidding me? Our HC has ankles like a chihuahua.

Mario’s lit of UM’s range now. Another missed opportunity.

I wrote two days ago that no one of any substance is going to come to this dumpster fire of a program.

Now, Mario has just insured himself a nice four-year extension from Phil Knight, plus incentives for Assistants.

We have meth addicted porsters already begging the BOT to look into the Cristobal Buyout.

They’re going to find their backs to the wall when they have to fire Diaz next year. They’ll need a steady hand to stabilize the Program.

Yep. Butch.

What do you mean? Are you talking in reality? Where else does someone other than the AD make the hire? You’re really proposing doing something that no other school in the country does on top of the dysfunction already surrounding the program? It’s a recipe for disaster, it’s clear as day.
