I wouldnt trust him. You missed the point of my comment. You are a smart dude and know football but I think you and most posters would have crapped on the hiring of Jimmy Johnson ("Jimmy Who?“ was the fanbase's feeling on the choice) and Erickson at the time. Jankovich literally got death threats for hiring Erickson. There was not a single thing in their resume that would lead someone to look at them and say, "now this guy can win multiple championships at Miami." the thing they had going for them is they were schematic geniuses. They didn't have some magic powder that made Miami players bigger and stronger than Bama or Texas players, they just knew how to use them more effectively.
Here's the thing, take a coach like Cristobal. Hes a solid coach. Big upgrade over Diaz. I'm sure he'd do a better job with S&C than Diaz but is he going to make the players bigger and stronger than Bama or UGA players? Doubtful. He's not going to out SEC the SEC. Richt tried to build a SEC lite team and it's turned out to be horrible. Miami needs a HC that can give the team a schematic advantage. I think Kiffin was a lot like Diaz in his USC stint, thinking he was the smartest guy in the room and his arrogance was his undoing. His time with Bama humbled him. Schnelly, a guy who did not suffer fools, was a huge Kiffin fan and Kiffin rewarded him with two conference championships in 3 years even though they had been absolutely putrid for several years up to Kiffins arrival. Now he's made Ole Miss interesting and competitive. He's not the only coach I think has what it takes to get Miami out of its rut but he's probably the most frequently dismissed and overlooked because people want to assume he's still the pre - Saban immature Kiffin.
