Are we worried about Donaldson?

thats going to happen by the end of the year. boulwere will eat up jones reps

It should happen after the Carolina Blue game. FIU and Carolina Blue should be games to get Scaife and Gaynor more REP'S! Then have that starting 5 OL which has been named above for the FSU game.

Again, Scaife at RT with Donaldson at RG makes a lot of sense to me. Seems like it would allow us to get our more talented OL on the field.

At G which is likely his better position.

Agreed.

I get why they tried Donaldson outside. The RTs were a disaster in spring, and Donaldson remade his body while showing slow improvement. But the early returns are bad, and our guard play has suffered.

Scaife has gotten himself ready to play. Although slightly undersized at tackle, he is a talent who upgrades our physicality and toughness immediately. Donaldson was a freshman AA at guard and is dominant at times as a run blocker. My dream line would be:

LT- St. Louis
LG- Donaldson
C- Gauthier
RG- Gaynor
RT- Scaife

More realistically, we could be looking at a combo of Mahoney/Boulware at the other guard spot.

All these people talking about putting Gaynor in at C. He’s not even the backup C. Milo was snapping the ball to Perry. So all you experts didn’t even notice that Gaynor is the third string C at best and playing backup G. I’ve seen Mahoney take center reps in drills and warmups too. Gaynor might be farther down the list.

When Wiggins and Hightower and Scaife were playing with the #1 offense against Toledo is that still an aversion to playing young guys or does that just begin with Pope and Hall?

I think Donaldson at RT is a long term plan. He got moved to tackle late in the off season and he needs a full offseason to re-work his body for the position. They probably plan to make due this season, let him get reps at RT, and then see how he looks next year, hopefully minus about 20lbs or so vs flip flopping him back and forth between G and T. Maybe if Scaife shows that he's ready for the Tackle spot full time they'll kick him back inside to Guard permanently during the season but I wouldn't hold my breath on it. Seems like they are more worried about Tackle than Guard hence thats why he's at RT now. I will say I thought he'd be in a little better shape weight wise since he was vocal about playing Tackle since the end of last year but I don't know how Miami wants their tackles vs Guards from a nutritional standpoint so maybe they liked the extra weight on since he was slated to play Guard.

Jalen Hurts is a good college QB. What’s your point?

Jalen Hurts is s product of his environment. He was the benefactor of a having great players around him. He is not a good college QB. He can't throw or read defenses enough to be considered good. He can run well, but his other "skills" are average at best.

You guys get caught up in these meaningless "awards" or recognitions. Two of Miami's starting LB's were also Freshman AA. They surely aren't two of the better LB's out there currently.

Yes, coaches can/should move him back to guard, but hasn’t he said he wants to be a Tackle? Costing himself a lot of money.

That the line I would love the see except possibly putting Boulware in at RG. He seems like he has brought some physicality to G we aren't getting from the other guys.

It just makes sense to get Scaife on the field next to Donaldson, turns a weakness into a potential strength.

Donaldson has worked his *** off to try RT but he just seems far better suited for G.

No he's a second yr lineman learning a new position.don't know why fans think you just plug in a freshmen or sophomore linemen and expect them to be all Americans.takes to develope olinemen 2_3 yrs something you fans need to understand .our line isn't there yet but it's getting better.

But to answer the question. Not really, Donaldson is probably our best lineman. I think when he is either moved back to guard, or figures it out at tackle, the line likely won't gel. But I do think one of those two will happen over the next two months as Miami continues to win.

It’s college football. Hurts doesn’t need to be Peyton Manning. Watch the schools that line up when he transfers. That will tell you all you need to know.

Back to Donaldson, he is worth the rating as a guard. He has shown many flashes of dominance as a run-blocker, including against Toledo. Right tackle was worth a shot but has not panned out.

Donaldson is a guard that should spend his day backside pulling on outside zone plays and destroying chamacs.
