Jesus some of you guys are dense. Yes of course Bama, F $U, UF, Miss st. et al. Get away with hooking kids up with cars, cash, etc. Of course rape, guns, and drugs get swept under the rug. Have you ever actually been to Tuscaloosa, Tallahassee, Starkville, Gainesville? I have. The city IS the local college football program. Without it these cities are nothing more than cow towns with no economy or culture whatsoever. There's a built in network of business owners, law enforcement, school administrators, etc. Everything depends on keeping the football program afloat and as relevant as possible.
Now contrast that with the greater Miami/Ft. Lauderdale/WPB area. Sorry, but Canes football, as historically significant as it is, is just a very small cog in a large wheel with a million exclusive competing interests. There's no network of loyal police chiefs, chamber of commerce, and politicians who prioritize keeping heat off the UM football program. Sure, there are some big fans along those groups but no system to keep the crime and extra benefits off the NCAA radar. Everyone talks and everyone prioritizes THEIR own interest. South Beach luxury ****** rentals would do just fine with or without UM football. Joe Bob's luxury rentals in Starkville literally doesn't exist without MSU football. And guess what else. Jim Bob's brother in law might just be the chief of police.
Get it? The podunk $EC and even ACC college towns (hi Clemson) will ALWAYS have a network of hooking kids up and covering up their misdeeds that Miami has never had and never will. Not that we haven't tried (you guys would be shocked at **** that went down under Erickson) and we know how that turned out.
We will never ever get away with what Bama, FSU, etc. Do because those programs exist in an ecosystem where the football program is everything. Been that way for decades, always will.
