Anyone else think maybe Vinnie threw the fiesta bowl...

I am 100% sure he threw that game..there was a poster on the old grassy that convinvced me. I believe he only had like 6 or 7 ints that entire year and then he throws 5 in one game??? I had nightmares about Shane Conlan and I was only 8 years old

Interesting point OP....those passes weren't close...not close and that was off his heisman campaign. He literally was throwing it right to the PSU defenders. There were no WRs in the vicinity of any of those throws. It was questionable, at best. I watched that 30 for 30 again and this time I said to myself, "****, it sure look like Vinny threw this game." Just a thought.

I've heard some former players speculate about this. Don't believe it, though.

Another Jimmy Johnson Bowl special. Great coach, but he choked on bowl games like he was eating coffee grounds. The Tennessee debacle and the Penn State games were two of the worst excuses for coaching and preparation imaginable.....especially with the talent those teams had.

They said vinnie was balling after the game. I'm guessing it's b/c he knew he threw the game and screwed his teammates. Good hs qbs wouldn't have made a few of those reads.

The reason for Miami's collaspse was different for both bowl games.

In the Sugar Bowl, a good portion of the team was partying up on Bourbon Street the night before the game. They were a lot of hungover guys who were in the no shape to play a football game. It was a **** shame because we wasted a NC with the team's pitiful effort.

For the Fiesta Bowl, virtually the entire team was focused like a laser beam. And it didn't help that Vinny was rusty coming off an injury. I just wished he hadn't spent so much time doing Heisman interviews and chasing tail.

And unlike the Sugar Bowl performance, Miami's defense was awesome in the Fiesta Bowl. Except for one good drive, Penn State's offense was completely shut down. If Miami had won that game, college football fans would have talked about Jerome Brown and that defensive performance for years - instead of Vinny's interceptions.

It took a monumental collaspe by the offense to give Penn State the W. And Miami still almost won with 7 TOs.

And in fairness to Vinny, there were a number of guys who didn't play well on offense. The OL's pass protection was **** poor. Except for Blades, none of the WRs and TEs played well (even Irvin had one of his worst games as a Hurricane).

Find that hard to believe. Ultimately, it's on the coaches. All they had to do is keep running the ball and Miami wins Imo.

I'm almost positive some years later the Tampa Bay Bucks disclosed that Vinnie was color blind even though they didn't know it on Draft Day..It's probably because Penn State was wearing a simuliar colored jersey for the Bowl game so Vinnie thought everyone was open..
