when you dive into their personnel you see alot of similarities outside of qb ... similar defensive schemes, size at wr ... they have a little more size in the middle with jackson, but everything else is about the same ... rebuilt offensive line ...

obvious difference is the venue ... but i'm struggling to see any decided advantages for them

I’ve been cautiously optimistic about every matchup this season—except this one. Rivalry games on the road are always tricky, but I just don’t see our guys overlooking this opponent. They’re too seasoned, too locked in, and too motivated. That gimmicky offense doesn’t concern me, and after seeing them in person against UVA, it’s clear FSU’s defensive front is soft. They don’t play with the physicality you expect at this level.

The ‘Holes might flash early, but by the middle of the third quarter, Miami’s discipline and depth should take over.

FSU has a ton of team speed. If we blow up the lines it will negate it but have to show that we will do that. I still think we’ve been susceptible to bigger plays and that’s my big fear. Early big plays to give them confidence.
I think that's the risk you take when you commit to stopping the run as much as we do. I'll take a few splash plays from opposing offense if it means we hold them to <100 rushing yards.

It’s similar but FSU has a lot more speed at skill position spots and while we have a major advantage on both lines, it’s not quite as significant as it was against USF. We should be able to physically manhandle them but they have explosive play potential on offense.

Brown is a better passing QB and probably better running against good D's due to size. I'll take Brown.

Lil Tommy has thrown the ball a lot better than I expected this year. He's certainly improved as a passer. I'm not saying he's Drew Brees, but his downfield passing is absolutely improved from what he showed at BC. He's still inconsistent, but he's putting the ball in good spots down the field this year.

His passer rating is the highest it's ever been right now, completion percentage, he's 4th in the country in EPA/dropback, 23rd in success rate. He's played well this year.

For our defense, this is absolutely our biggest challenge to date.

ND ran a ridiculously conservative offense Week 1 to try to protect Carr, and for some reason they forgot to give Love the football. Credit to us, when he did get it, he didn't have much room, but the gameplan for them was incredibly vanilla.

Bethune is a scrimmage.

USF presents a challenge because of the tempo, but we have a massive talent advantage, especially on the LOS. They're a G5 team who has absolutely no hope of blocking us up front, and when you can't even slow down a front, you have no choice.

UiF, forget it. That's the most pathetic offense I've seen all year. Again, credit to our kids and staff. We're playing excellent defense. I'm not trying to say we've been good just because the competition is bad....we're still lining up and dominating. But this is the first actual offense we've played, where the talent is somewhat comparable and the scheme is aggressive. If we go absolutely flatten FSU this week and hold them to something like under 20 points, I will honestly start saying this might be the best defense in America. But this is an actual challenge.

My only concern with this game is we’ve had a chance (this was also a HUGE issue last year) to step on a neck in all 3 big games this year and haven’t done it

ND wasn’t the end of the world because it’s just a **** good team with a lot of heart

But we had a chance to bury USF and UiF many times early in those games and didn’t do it

Can’t do that on the road if we get the chance here they’re talented enough to make us pay (like ND did). If we play our game I think this ends up a walk in the park but the offense has to get right on those critical drives. Turnovers and offensive line penalties have hurt.

Watching that FSU v Virginia game gave me flashbacks to watching one of a dozen canes teams from the 20-teens. Talent advantage against other ACC teams, but undisciplined, undersized, bad line play, a decent player here or there but JAGs littering the field.

I was more worried about the Florida game than I am about this one. I just don't see how they keep up with us in the trenches for 4 quarters. I think they'll hit a few big plays by the nature of their misdirection offense but I don't see them moving the ball consistently. And I 100% can't see them stopping our offense, specifically our run game. Even if Beck has a less than stellar outing a la Florida I think our OLine will be able to wear them down and take whatever they want.

The one thing I will say, I’ve felt like we are susceptible on the back end more than the run game.

Our run fits seem to be more sound and efficient. If we can maintain gap and lane integrity we can manage them. Don’t fall for the eye candy.

To be fair, the USF game was 28-6 at the half. They were kinda already buried. We scored TDs on 3 of our first 4 drives and it was 21-6 early in the 2nd quarter. I hear you, but I'm not going to kill the team for not burying someone in the 3rd quarter when we bury them from the opening kickoff.

ND was very disappointing the way we went into a shell, we've discussed this one ad nauseum.

The gator, the game was 20-0 early in the 3rd quarter. They were buried. I am still absolutely incensed about that bull**** call, but that game was 20-0, it was over, they were buried. But, even after that awful call, and we punted, we threw the ball on our next 4 snaps. First one was picked, then we got the ball back, and we threw the ball 3 times and punted. What disappointed me more than anything was just the presnap penalties that stunted multiple drives, as you mentioned. We can't beat ourselves Saturday night. Just like I said against UiF, if we play clean, we win this game by 2 scores. I'm not even saying our "A game", although that would be nice. Just don't turn it over, don't have backbreaking penalties on multiple drives.
