ANYONE ATTEND THE SCRIMMAGE?

I was there. DL dominated. DBs looked good. Kaaya had a nice deep ball to Berrios. Ryan Mayes is consistently making plays, including a pick 6 on Tuesday and another pick yesterday. He is much improved. Mike Smith and Romeo Finley were active.

What are your thoughts on linebackers, depth, and impact on special teams?

So happy to hear on Mayes. Hopefully he can become a player this year. What LB spot is Mike Smith playing? Is end out of the question for him?

MLB.

He's playing baseball?

Linebacker is pretty thin. The freshmen are studs but McCloud is a little more raw than the other two. He will be a demon on ST, though.

DMoney not that it matters because both will play a lot, but who do you think will start at the other cb spot between redwine and colbert?

Linebackers were already thin with quality. Two true freshman in the unit possibly starting should have set off alarms.

And the DL dominating against this group of OL scrubs shouldn't get you too high. Wait till they do it consistently against a real unit.

Close call but I would lean Colbert. I also expect to see those two outside with Elder in the nickel spot.

DB's are playing good ball

Definitely. I feel a lot better than I did before. Jenkins and Carter are stepping up as seniors. No idea why Texas didn't move Colbert to CB. He has really good tools there.

The key to our entire defense that people need to remember is honestly all evaluations we made before are out the window now. We're back to playing instinctual attacking football. Capitalizing on speed again. I feel real good about this defense if we can somehow weather the compliance crap. Richt I think will eventually have to step in & say this is enough.

Hey Dmoney, is it as close as Richt says in the battle for #2 Qb?

If I had to guess now atleast based upon the scrimmage I'd say rozier has lost his job. Not because anyone else looks so good but because rozier can't complete a pass. I'd say sheriffs will be back up

Agreed. It's disappointing that nobody has stepped up and won the job. Allison will be the best of the three by next spring.

The question is........Does Richt have the power to step in and say enough in this particular situation? Are you speculating that Richt might see the compliance department about to drop the hammer on AQM and/or Grace and try to intervene on their behalf?

He's being told to stay out of it

Right now I am sitting here absolutely stunned about what you just wrote about Mayes. It isn't that I don't believe you. It's just that I never expected Mayes to amount to much here. The fact that you and others have said that Mayes is much improved and that he is consistently making plays leads me to think a couple of things.

The first being that after witnessing 15 years of mediocre to atrocious coaching we are starting to see the tangible results of having a good competent coaching staff. The other is that maybe just maybe, Golden's evaluation wasn't as crazy as most of us thought. The problem with Golden was that even when he did nail an evaluation he didn't possess the coaching acumen to help the player realize his potential. Having said that, there is no way that you take Mayes over Wilson.

However, what's done is done and Quincy isn't here but Ryan is and it's great to know or at the very least see evidence that we finally have a coaching staff that knows what the **** it's doing.

OK but didn't you just say that "Richt, I think will eventually have to step in and say this is enough."?

It's disappointing that Shirrefs is "The Best of The Worst." I think N'Kosi Perry has a really good chance of coming in and starting should Kaaya leave for The NFL after this season.
