"Pups." I was there and remember Butch and his inadequacies well. Coaches like Urban, or Saban, or Patterson would slap Butch silly. Even Blandy beat him. No thanks (unless there is absolutely no other reasonable option available).
The top 3 coaches in college are better than Butch? I guess we should criticize Tom Osborne for the fact that Bobby Bowden, Bear Bryant, and Woody Hayes were better than him. Galen Hall once beat Jimmy Johnson. Is he better than Jimmy? Who do you recommend, Coach TRock305?
Read the prior posts; others were comparing those guys to Botch in terms of age. There is no comparison between these guys and Butch, however. Butch was consistently outsmarted and it took enormous talent to overcome his deficits. Sure, he, along with people like Chud, Coker, Pagano, Schiano etc put together an incredible roster his last three seasons but he also managed to underperform two of those 3 years. 66-13 with the conf title on the line... smh. And, for some reason Butch is credited as being solely responsible for those rosters, as if coordinators and assistants don't do the bulk of recruiting work. Sure, if Butch could put together an incredible staff, and if they could re-create one of the best rosters in college football history again, he might manage to get into a conference championship game; but that's a lot of ifs. There is no guarantee of that after all this time, and particularly with an administration that isn't willing to bend the rules to let anyone the coach wants into the University. With this admin., UM is far better off with an Xs & Os guy. I'm not going to pretend to have watched enough of the Houstons, Memphises, and Northern Illinois of the college football world to know who the best coaches are right now.
But I've seen enough of Butch to know he ain't it.
Stop watching the 30 for 30s. It's ancient history. UM needs to turn the page.
You didn't answer the question, you smoke-and-mirror princess. You're annoyed that I trashed your stupid point and now you're backpedaling. He out coached Paterno in the game Ed Reed blew the coverage at the end and you dumb argument that you're missing is once his talent was on par with those guys, he beat them. And then you follow it up by listing the great staff he put together as a negative because you're too butthurt to give him his dues.
You reference the Syracuse game. Breaking news: That Syracuse team was better and led by a multi-time Pro-Bowler and we had Scott Covington. Your sour bitterness extends so far that now you're putting down his recruiting and evaluations? That's pathetic and ungrateful. So passive aggressive with your conference championship jab and saying all those if's when he accomplished all those if's before, dumb-dumb. And your line of bending the rules fails too since the school has a policy of bending the rules for a few recruits a year according to Pete. I've seen enough of Butch to know that he can evaluate and recruit both coaches and talent at the highest level for over 25 years while you cry and pretend it isn't true because Butch wronged you at some point in your life.
Stop being mad that Butch didn't recruit you. Not everybody is good enough to play for Miami. Your better days are behind. Move on with your life and forget whatever slight Butch did to you and realize he can be back, win, and you'll just have to accept it.
