And so it begins…..CFP rankings chat

USC would canibalize Oregon. If you believe Michigan wins that conference I’ve got ocean front property in Wyoming to sell you.
Agree about USC and Oregon, but don’t trust committee. If Michigan beats Ohio State would they would be considered and don’t have to play in Championship game.

Funny enough duke probably has the easiest road to the championship game, injured chandler morris for UVA, at UNC and at home vs wake

there won't be three. They will be lucky to get 1
I can’t see how they'll be lucky to get 1. Five teams are ranked right now. If Miami and GT win out; they’re going to put both of us in. GT ends the season at UGA. GT also faces Pitt just like us.

The three team scenario, unlikely, but more likely than the 0 team scenario, is as followed.

Miami wins out; no ACC-CCG
GT wins out; in the ACC-CCG
UVA wins out; in the ACC-CCG

Miami would have a win over UVA’s and GT’s mutual opponent NC State. Neither played SMU. UL wins out; beating SMU. UVA has a win over UL; giving them the tiebreaker.

UVA beats GT in a close ACC-CCG. UVA, Miami, and GT all have two losses. GT beat UGA to end the season. Not even going through the chaos of the SEC; GT and Miami would have better wins than Vandy at 10-2.

Even if Texas went 9-3 beating A&M and losing to UGA, GT wouldn’t get penalized, like SMU didn’t, for playing an extra game while UTexas sat at home. Theyd also have to head to head over UTexas with the mutual opponent games in recent memory.

If Texas wins out, how can they rank a 11-2 GT below a 10-2 UGA? UGA wouldn’t make the championship game.

Duke is the #2 betting favorite to win the ACC. It's a lot more likely than you think.
Speaking of betting, these live odds suck and equate to a 16% chance, no vig:

First and foremost, I would like to see the Canes finish strong with more consistency and explosiveness on offense (building on that second half against Syracuse), with a continuation of a strong defense (best defense in the ACC) and three straight impressive performances/wins.

If that happens, I think we Canes fans should be very happy because that means the Canes took a step this season and learned how to close the season the right way—like a championship caliber team.

The rest will take care of itself

I think we want Louisville to beat Clemson.

***** an ACC Championship birth. We want Louisville to remain ranked until they play SMU.
No we dont. We want Louisville to have 3 or more losses. Don’t take a chance of comparing resumes with a team you lost to H2H. Just bc they gave ND the nod over us, doesn’t mean they’ll give us that same benefit.

I’m not going to try understanding the Big 10’s tiebreakers but that would make Michigan a one loss Big 10 team. So they would theoretically in contention for a spot.

As to Pitt vs. ND:

Pitt DOESN'T have to beat the Irish. Pitt just has to play them close to roil the Irish chances of moving out of the ghetto and into the Top Six.

Trust me: the Committee wants Catholics vs. Convicts in the Playoffs. Bet House Money on that. If they could put in the Fiesta Bowl they will find a way to arrange that.

Write this down. If Cristobal doesn't find a way to f**k things up, that's what will happen. They will rig the playoffs to arrange that game.

Super Bowl numbers for that rematch.

If we win out we don't have to worry about anyone behind us.
Agreed, probably not an issue if we win out. But a Michigan win over OSU is better than our NDs and one of their losses is to Oklahoma which is a better loss than either of our losses. I can see the committee looking at it from that perspective. Do I? No. Go Canes.

Per ESPN, Miami makes CFP as 11-seed. Personally, I think the CFP is a joke. They are trying to copy college basketball's March Madness by putting long-shot cinderella teams into the playoffs. I am more or less a traditionalist when it comes to sports. I still haven't come to terms with the designated hitter in baseball or the 3-point line in basketball. This quest for more revenue is ridiculous, especially when you consider how violent football is. I find it disgusting that the lords of college football would subject players to what used to be a NFL schedule and increased risk of career-ending injuries (meaning reduced or no NFL payday) just to pull in more revenue for "amateur" athletics. Ok. Pile it on. I expect the negative responses.
