Alright I’m going to say it. I have some concerns.

Stopped reading after RB slightly better.
People keep banging on me saying running back is slightly better but look at the facts.

Last year our offense injured 4 running backs (missed games)
Last year we luckily had 4 starter level backs.

This year we have an outstanding starter. If he gets banged up and the rumors about Fletcher are true we have 4 running backs that have never taken a meaningful snap in college and another that had 1 good game last year but couldn’t beat out the other 4.

Under Mario’s offense you have to assume Martinez is going to miss some time and with no Fletcher you’re relying on nothing but unknowns.

If Fletcher is 100% to start the season then that changes everything for this position.

What exactly about this offense injures RBs?

Already moping, and we aren't even into fall ball. Yes, this team is drastically improved from last season, and honestly, it's because of the vast improvement at the QB position. Cam Ward isn't nearly the headcase that TVD was, and he is a better player overall. Look at how often this team was in games, and TVD gave the game away with TERRIBLE INTs. It wasn't just that TVD gave it away, he had a unique knack for turning it over at the worst possible time. GT, UNC and NC State games all could have easily turned out differently had TVD been merely competent. Not great, not elite, COMPETENT.

If you have a top end QB, you have a shot. Never mind the other upgrades and some of the stars being a year older and stronger. Think about the freshmen that played last year, that took their lumps, they are older, another year closer to maturity. They should be better. Yes, there were losses, but with the portal and recruiting successes, this team should be significantly better. I want to see how the team looks in person before I start making pronouncements(IE Week 1, I'll be in the Swamp). That said, this team should be solid.

When I look at this roster:
- Really concerned: LG, S starters
- Slighty concerned: DT depth, CB depth

Other than that this roster is more than capable of 10 wins given we have a year 2 OC and DC with major veterans at key STARTING positions like QB, RB, WR, LT, C, RG, DE, ST starters, ILB, CB1, Nickel, and K. We also have major upside players at key STARTING positions like TE, RT, DE, OLB, CB2, and P.

I wish we would have found a legit safety (I assume Powell is moving all over because we are so weak back in the secondary) and I wish we would have found a way to solidify LG in the spring.

Four coaches weighed in on the Hurricanes and you'll notice a common theme:

“It’s a situation where the sum is not greater than the parts, and that falls directly on the head coach. There’s more talent here, more resources, than the overall team you’re getting. That’s the problem right now."

"The Tyler Van Dyke experiment is over, and it’s on them to fit their offense to Cam Ward, not the other way around. That kid has an established skill set that can help them, so they shouldn’t try to make him accommodate their playbook."

"The defense is strongest to weakest from front to back. They’re not as good in the secondary as they should be."

"The coaching issues cost them a game last season, and overall there are questions about how effective this staff is at getting the most out of otherwise talented players. The biggest question is the sidelines, not the roster.”

Just posting, no real opinion either way…think it’s pretty fair
Yeah but that is also followed up by this gem about Duke....

"The identity will be all defense. Manny’s time at Miami was more consistent than the guy they fired him for. He knows how to run a program, and Elko helped tremendously by showing that Duke football can be relevant.”

The upgrade at QB elevates every position group of the offense. Even without the QB upgrade, TE room is better. They had no reliable receiver threats at TE last year, and now they have three.

The DB's are the weak spot on the team. The DL upgrades will help protect them. Pass rush should improve with the addition a Barron and hopefully Mesidor can play this year.

I think Carpenter will be better in the run game. He’s stronger than Lee and better at the point of attacking from what i understand. He’s not as fleet a foot. We’ll see how they develop him though. It’s certainly not a disaster position IMO
Carpenter was getting ran by in practice by freshman so I hope he has adjusted and that isn’t happening anymore.

A lot of battered wives in this thread. You’re afraid. I understand. But it’s ok. It’s ok to get back out there and accept love again.
Feelings are for children. If I want love, I'll get a dog. This is about $$. For those who want to bet on the Canes, I wish them well. I'm just not that confident.

OP fumbled the list for sure but his overall concern is legit (IMO). We have some rooms that lack talent / depth. Hopefully that doesn't get exposed. 🤞🏼

NO you're wrong. I WILL NEVER LOVE AGIN! You don't know how much I've suffered as a HUrricanes alum. I hate you DAD!

Put big money on this season then lover boy.

Bad advice. RUN
This isn’t about nitpicking a roster that has holes. Any idiot can walk around shaking in their boots because we could use more secondary help.

Like no ****.

What this is really about is Miami underperforming for the last twenty years and people scared to be excited.

That’s the truth. So just admit it instead of hiding behind the excuse that we don’t have enough safeties.

The only relevant excuse people should be using is Mario. He hasn’t proven anything here. If people wanna say hey love the roster but Mario gotta prove it to me then cool. But I’m not gonna sit here placating people being pussies about our roster.

This team has holes but it’s built to ****.

This is about a smorgasbord of all this.

A) Roster construction
B) Mario's ineptness
C) Miami's curse

Roster has some glaring holes that should have been addressed with all the money we spent this off-season. Football (not Miami football per say) has a way of exposing this. Mario will always do less with more. If anything bad can happen, it will - Miami Football

**You're absolutely right on roster being good enough.. but that's at the right program, staff & players/system.

Will it work at Miami? TBD.

/probably not lol

I’m with ya.

IDGAF what Mario did at Oregon. If he doesn’t win with this roster he never will here, that’s my feeling. If we **** up this year, this Cam Ward scenario, well I’ll be the first one taking the picture in front of the grave like the deuces guy
