Alonzo will not be joining the Miami Administration

Can anyone tell me what exactly a football chief of staff does? I'm all for bringing Zo in here to fix the house he helped build, but what powers would he have? I'm guessing it's essentially AD for football only, but honestly have no idea.

Not surprised. He currently has a good job and he wants to become an NFL GM. Why would he waste his time running our ****** program

This is where I’m at. His future is nfl GM. Why would he want to deal with the current toxicity at the Hecht now? My sense is that he told UM he could join only if he calls shots. It makes no sense for him to join if Diaf and flake are still calling shots

Blake needs fired period point blank. This will be good moving forward but until Manny and Blake are gone nobody beating FIU anytime soon

First of all, if he was to report to Fake James and be under Fake and have to get the approval of Manure, then it was a useless position anyway. Completely useless.

This Chief of Staff garbage isn’t what we needed. We need a new AD or a football GM who doesn’t get hired by Fake or report to Fake or need to be approved by Manure. Otherwise, all he’d be is some sort of clown who feeds bullshyt to the press and work as some sort of liaison for Manure.
Exactly. I said it when the story first came out. Unless he’s reporting directly to the BOT then it’s no bueno.

Maybe I’m ignorant but my biggest question comes from this idea the admin seems ok letting the football program be mediocre due to the ACC sharing the money pot. Taking football out of it and just looking from a business prospective, wouldn’t it be advantageous to maximize its earning potential? Everyone knows football pays for most other sports. I’ve read articles about football paying for academic improvements at other universities as well. Again, maybe I’m just lost in the sauce but even without football knowledge, how can a university ignore the possibility of maximizing the football program which has been a national brand. Seems to pay dividends at other top performing football programs.

It depends on the team. In almost every instance I have seen the chief of staff works for the head coach and is more of a right hand man who helps hire, fire, and find staff as well as evaluate staff. Budgeting and day to day items. Which makes sense why an older guy like Stroud was supposedly going to take this role for Manny.

What every fan (myself included) actually wants chief of staff to mean is “control of anything remotely related to Miami football and answerable only to god himself”.

People really jumped the gun here.

In case you guys can't read between the lines, Manny & Mangina James are playing Hot potato with this decision because they both know their jobs are on the line & neither one wants to be responsible for bringing in Alonzo which would be the marker of the start of a regime change.

They're going to fck this up because Miami has no accountability at the top, Blake James calls all the shots in this program, he hired Manny, but now he's pawning off hiring Alonzo who would essentially take over as Football Czar onto Manny as if it's the Coaches decision.

Like I said in the Cristobal thread, no one worth half their weight in salt would/should want anything to do with this program. Mario would literally need to have his head examined if he left Oregon to come back down to this clown show.

You think Manny asked Blake to hire him a new boss?

Doubt it, but maybe knows Manny knows this job is more than he can handle on his own. If they bring in someone to help guide the general direction of the program, but he remains the HC, win-win.

Manny needs to go

Gee, I wonder why Manure doesn’t want someone hired who can fire him. This whole thing is a ruse to dupe the morons in the fanbase into thinking there’s a “football guy” in the house. Meanwhile, I’d Manure and Fake have ANY say in the hiring, then it’s a powerless shythead position.

LMFAO

You mean this guy doesn’t want to have to answer to an alpha personality?

Who would have thunk it? I have no idea why Highsmith would intimidate Manny.

Is Alonzo really all that close to being an NFL GM? He’s Dorsey’s buddy with the Browns, and Dorsey is probably on the verge of getting fired. I’m not sure how in demand Alonzo is as an NFL GM.

I saw a thing on NFL Network show the other day and Alonzo was mentioned.

Exactly. They must’ve actually had less sense than I thought and tasked him with running it, which is against his career/control interests so he sabotaged it in my opinion. That’s my guess.
